Meta is expanding its artificial intelligence business into the enterprise market with the launch of Meta Enterprise Platform, a new business unit focused on helping companies use AI to grow and transform their businesses. The company has appointed Chirantan “CJ” Desai, who most recently served as CEO and President of MongoDB, as Chief Enterprise Platform Officer to lead the initiative, reporting directly to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
Meta is positioning the new platform as the next major pillar of its business, bringing together its AI models, agents, large-scale infrastructure and experience working with businesses. The initial focus will be on making technologies including the Muse agent, Meta Business Agent, Muse API and Muse Code available to businesses and developers.
Meta Launches Dedicated Enterprise AI Platform
Announcing the initiative, Zuckerberg said Meta Enterprise Platform will use capabilities that the company believes give it a distinctive position in the enterprise AI market. The platform will bring together advanced models, leading AI agents, large-scale infrastructure and Meta's existing relationships with businesses.
Meta said its initial goal is to bring its full technology stack to businesses and developers to help them grow. The company already serves billions of people and works with hundreds of millions of businesses, giving the new enterprise unit an existing ecosystem that Meta plans to build upon.
CJ Desai Joins Meta to Lead Enterprise Efforts
Desai joins Meta after serving as CEO and President of MongoDB. Before MongoDB, he led product and engineering at Cloudflare and spent nearly eight years at ServiceNow, including serving as President and COO.
Zuckerberg described Desai as an experienced enterprise leader with a track record across full-stack software, AI, infrastructure, business applications and security. Meta also highlighted his extensive industry network as an important part of the company's plans to work with enterprise customers and partners.
Confirming his appointment in a LinkedIn post, Desai said the newly formed unit will focus on translating Meta's AI capabilities into products for businesses and developers. He said, “I am very excited to share that I’m joining Meta as Chief Enterprise Platform Officer to lead Meta’s enterprise efforts reporting to Mark Zuckerberg. This newly formed unit will focus on translating Meta’s AI leadership into transformative products for developers and businesses.”
Desai Sees AI Reshaping Enterprise Workflows
Desai said the next stage of AI adoption will extend well beyond the productivity gains seen among individual users. He expects businesses of different sizes to increasingly use AI to rethink how they innovate, sell products, serve customers and manage daily operations.
He also pointed to the possibility of AI being used to redesign complete business workflows, covering areas such as product development, customer engagement and decision-making.
Meta's combination of AI models, infrastructure and agents is central to this strategy. Desai said the company's existing business ecosystem could provide an important foundation for developing an enterprise platform. “Meta has a rare advantage in this transition: advanced AI models, large-scale infrastructure, and agents paired with an ecosystem that already helps millions of advertisers and hundreds of millions of businesses grow and succeed. Bringing those strengths together creates the opportunity to build an entirely new enterprise platform.”
Security and Privacy to Be Part of Enterprise Strategy
Meta is also highlighting security and privacy as important elements of its enterprise offering. Desai said the company's enterprise products will incorporate security and privacy from the outset, pointing to Meta's approach with Muse.
The platform is ultimately intended to turn Meta's existing AI technology stack into products and services that companies can deploy within their own businesses. This could position Meta more directly against technology companies already developing AI platforms and tools for enterprise customers.
Meta's Enterprise Push Comes With MongoDB Impact
Desai's departure also had an immediate impact on MongoDB shares. Following news of his move to Meta, MongoDB's stock fell around 21% to $326.51 during Monday trading in New York, according to the information provided.
Desai owns 72,753 MongoDB shares, based on Bloomberg-compiled data, meaning the decline reduced the value of his stake by approximately $6.1 million during the session.
The move also came amid declines across several enterprise software companies, including Microsoft, Salesforce and ServiceNow, while Meta shares fell 4.2%.
Desai separately thanked his former colleagues at MongoDB, saying it was a privilege to build the company's modern data platform for the multi-cloud AI era and serve its growing customer base.
With Desai now leading Meta Enterprise Platform, the company is creating a dedicated structure to turn its AI models, agents and infrastructure into products designed specifically for businesses and developers. The initiative marks a new phase in Meta's effort to expand its AI capabilities into the enterprise market.
