The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has launched AIKosha, a secured platform designed to drive AI innovation by offering a repository of models, datasets, and use cases. AIKosha also includes AI sandbox capabilities with an amalgamated development environment alongside tools and tutorials to support developers and researchers.

The latest initiative includes AIKosha: IndiaAI Datasets Platform, the AI Competency Framework for Public Sector Officials, the AI Compute Portal, iGOT-AI Mission Karmayogi, the IndiaAI Startups Global Acceleration Program in collaboration with Station F, the IndiaAI Application Development Initiative, and IndiaAI FutureSkills—each designed to enhance AI-driven research, innovation, and skill development.

On the IndiaAI Mission anniversary in New Delhi, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw unveiled AIKosha alongside several key AI initiatives to boost AI research and innovation in the Indian landscape. The IndiaAI Compute Portal is designed to provide affordable AI compute, storage, network, cloud services and platform, and the AI Competency Framework at lower rates for startups, MSMEs, researchers, PhD scholars, academia, students, and government agencies.

The portal provides easy access to high and mid-range GPUs, including NVIDIA H100, H200, A100, L40S, and L4, AMD MI300x and 325X, Intel Gaudi 2, AWS Tranium, and Inferentia, along with storage and network services. A 40% subsidy is available for eligible AI users on AI compute services via cloud.

Speaking at the event in New Delhi, Union Minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw emphasized that the launch of AIKosha: IndiaAI Datasets Platform and the AI Compute Portal represents a significant step in advancing AI research and innovation in India. He highlighted that the AI Compute Portal will initially provide access to 10,000 GPUs, with an additional 8,693 to be integrated, ensuring AI compute services are available at a subsidized rate for researchers, startups, and enterprises.

Shri Vaishnaw also noted India’s rapid progress in global AI rankings, securing the top position in AI skill penetration and ranking among the world’s Top 10 AI nations. He further elaborated on India’s DPI framework for AI, which ensures ethically sourced, consent-based datasets, reducing dependence on synthetic and foreign data.

Regarding AIKosha, he stated that the platform currently hosts over 300 datasets and 80+ models, facilitating the development of diverse and unbiased AI solutions. Additionally, he highlighted AI’s role in governance and capacity building, particularly through the iGOT-AI Mission Karmayogi, which integrates AI-powered learning recommendations for public officials.

To foster AI-driven learning, the AI Competency Framework is designed to equip public sector officials with AI-related skills, while iGOT-AI offers AI-powered personalized AI education for government officials on the iGOT Karmayogi platform. In addition, IndiaAI Mission, in partnership with STATION F and HEC Paris, launched a four-month acceleration program, offering 10 AI startups mentorship, networking, and global expansion opportunities in Europe. The IndiaAI Application Development Initiative focuses on promoting, developing, and scaling impactful AI solutions adoption potentially for large-scale socioeconomic transformation.

Plus, the IndiaAI FutureSkills ambition is designed to increase AI courses in the undergraduate, the masters-level, and the Ph.D. programs. Additionally, IndiaAI is allocating funds for the IndiaAI Fellowship, supporting undergraduate and postgraduate students from centrally funded institutions like IITs, NITs, IIITs, along with other government and private academic institutes.

IndiaAI is setting up Data Labs in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities across India to offer foundational courses. Two specialized courses have been developed for Data Annotator and Data Curator roles, focusing on key sectors like healthcare, education, manufacturing, and agriculture. These courses will be delivered through IndiaAI Data Labs at NIELIT and ITI centers.

Further, 30 AI solutions addressing critical challenges have been shortlisted from over 900 submissions under the IndiaAI Innovation Challenge. The launch of the IndiaAI Fellowship under the IndiaAI Futureskills Pillar also marks a significant step in nurturing AI talent in the country.

These initiatives collectively strengthen India’s position as a global AI powerhouse, fostering innovation, research, and skill development in the field of artificial intelligence.
