The cricket fraternity and fans observed one of the most significant upsets in World Cup history, both T20 and ODI, as the USA shocked Pakistan in the Group A match on Thursday night. The reason was Mumbai-based Saurabh Netravalkar, who delivered a super over on behalf of the USA team to defeat Babar Azam-led Pakistan in a dramatic show. Netravalkar was handed over with the crucial over to defend 18 runs to secure a victory for his team. The left-arm fast baller took the matter seriously and showed his brilliance with the ball as the Pakistani team could not stand before him and only managed 13 runs. This led to a historic win for the USA.

Who is Saurabh Netravalkar?

The 32-year-old Saurabh Netravalkar represents the USA cricket team as well as working as a software engineer with Oracle. The young baller outperformed in a group A match to defeat former champion Pakistan. The man is living the dream life of many middle-class Indians and took social media by storm after people encountered that Netravalkar is an engineer as well as playing professional cricket. Also, social media is abuzz with videos of this multitalented man playing ukulele and singing songs as well.

In the past, Netravalkar has represented India in U19 cricket and currently, he is serving Washington Freedom. The software engineer completed his Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Mumbai in 2013 and moved to the USA to pursue a Master’s degree. But his passion for cricket could not go in vain and there started the complex task of balancing both the difficult careers side by side.

Super Over vs Pakistan

In a thrilling Group A clash on Thursday night, the cricket world was taken by surprise as the USA pulled off one of the biggest upsets in World Cup history, defeating Pakistan. The credit goes to Saurabh Netravalkar who completed his first 4-over spell and restricted Pakistan to 159/7. Again, in the Super Over, when Pakistan required 18 runs to win the match, Netravalkar wrapped up the opponent team by delivering only 13 runs and declared the USA the winner of the match.

History Repeats

In 2010, Netravalkar played in the U19 World Cup in an Indian jersey and tasted the bitterness of defeat from the young-Babar-led Pakistani team. In that match, he was a teammate with players like KL Rahul, and Mayank Agarwal. This time, the match was reversal when Netravalkar led the USA to an amazing win over Babar’s Pakistan and settled the scores.

Strong Technical Background

At the time when Netravalkar was part of the Indian U19 cricket team, fast bowlers like Zaheer Khan were already part of the national cricket team, making entry difficult for a new player. So, Saurabh was left with hypothetical choices, either to wait for his turn to get a chance to enter the Indian cricket team or continue with his studies in the technical field. Being a bright student, he opted for the second option.

During his master's degree, Netravalkar developed an Android App for grass-root-level-cricketers to maintain structured data of their performances. The app provides diverse graphing tools and data filters for strength-weaknesses. The app received 2000+ downloads and was featured on ESPNcricinfo and majorly used in India, Australia, and England. Alongside, he knows computer languages and technologies like Android SDK, SQLite, Python, and Google Cloud Platform equally well.

Justification With Sports & Technology?

Being a professional cricketer and a Principal Member Of Technical Staff at Oracle simultaneously, Netravalkar’s profile shows a unique combination of job profiles on the professional social media platform LinkedIn.

As per Netravalkar’s professional career graph shown on LinkedIn, timely growth demonstrates his commitment to his job as a software engineer at Oracle. At the same time, he is the captain of the USA cricket team which is in itself enough to prove his determination for cricket. His career graph is going upward in both professions, which means the Indian-origin cricketer is well justifying his dual role as a professional cricketer and engineer.
