Data from Kaspersky Security Network (KSN) reveals that cyberattack via browsers and social engineering remain the most prevalent form of web threat in the first quarter of 2024. Malware continues to be a major cyber threat. Over 20% users in India have fallen victim to local threats during the same period.

Indian users have continued to face major number of cyber threats and encounter cyber attacks at multiple levels in the first quarter of 2024 through January to March. In the quarterly data released by global security company Kaspersky, 22.9% of web users in the country were attacked by web-borne threats, while 20.1% users were vulnerable to local threats during the same period.

In terms of web threats, it was seen that the cyber criminals exploited the vulnerabilities in the browsers and their plugins. The user systems were corrupted when they visited infected websites. These attacks happened without the knowledge of the user. File-less malware is being seen as most dangerous web threat this quarter since it does not leave any trace for static analysis of the attack. Social engineering like phishing, baiting, pretexting remained a prevalent mode of cyberattack on Indian users.

To beat this our products apply behaviour detection components to find and fight malicious activities. Another key technology that we often use is exploit prevention that blocks malwareโ€™s attack attempts in real time. These solutions help Indian users combat cyberattacks,โ€ says Purshottam Bhatia, Head of Sales, Consumer Solutions, South Asia, Kaspersky.
