Instagram has introduced a new text-only wordmark, marking its first major typography refresh in nearly a decade. The new design replaces the wordmark that had been in use for around ten years, giving the platform a more contemporary visual identity while keeping its familiar brand name intact.

The update comes as Instagram continues to evolve its platform for creators, businesses and everyday users. Unlike a complete rebranding, the latest change focuses specifically on how the Instagram name is presented.

New Design Brings Curved, Modern Style

Instagram head Adam Mosseri announced the update on Instagram and Threads, describing the new wordmark as “sharper and more modern.” The redesigned lettering features a cursive-like style, with smoother and more pronounced curves across several letters, particularly the “s,” “r,” and “g.”

The typography gives the wordmark a more fluid and expressive appearance while maintaining the simplicity associated with Instagram’s visual identity. The change also reflects how established technology brands are increasingly refreshing their identities through subtle design updates rather than complete overhauls.

Users React to the Change

The redesign has received mixed reactions online. Some users have welcomed the update, describing it as fresher and praising the choice of font. Others have questioned the design and suggested that the previous wordmark was more recognizable and visually balanced.

As is often the case with major social platforms, the redesign has also generated plenty of humour online. Some users joked that the shape of the new “r” makes the brand name look like “Instagzam,” highlighting how even small changes to a familiar logo can quickly become a topic of conversation.

Will Instagram Change Its Icon Next?

Instagram’s last major visual overhaul came in 2016, when the company replaced its well-known brown camera logo with the pink, purple and orange gradient icon that remains in use today. That transformation was far more dramatic than the latest wordmark update.

The new typography could therefore be viewed as a measured evolution rather than a complete brand redesign. Meta has not confirmed whether Instagram is considering further visual changes, including a possible new app icon.

For now, Instagram appears to be refreshing one of its most recognizable brand elements while keeping its overall identity familiar to billions of users.
