The landmark partnership, announced during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the Netherlands, is being widely viewed as one of the most significant milestones in India’s semiconductor journey so far.
Under the agreement, ASML, the world’s leading supplier of advanced semiconductor lithography systems, will provide critical support and technology expertise for Tata Electronics’ upcoming semiconductor fab. The collaboration represents a major step in strengthening India’s semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem while also deepening strategic technology cooperation between India and the Netherlands.
Reacting to the announcement, Ashok Chandak, President at IESA and SEMI India described the partnership as a defining moment for India’s semiconductor ecosystem and a strong validation of the country’s growing global relevance in advanced technology manufacturing.
“IESA welcomes the landmark partnership announcement between Tata Electronics and ASML during Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s visit to the Netherlands. This is a breakthrough and a historic milestone in India’s semiconductor manufacturing journey. ASML is the world’s most critical semiconductor equipment company and the global leader in advanced lithography systems, enabling the manufacturing of the most sophisticated chips powering AI, computing, automotive, industrial, and communication technologies worldwide,” said Chandak.
Highlighting the scale and strategic significance of Tata Group’s semiconductor investments, Chandak stated, “Tata Group, one of India’s most respected and visionary industrial conglomerates, is making one of the country’s largest investments in semiconductors and electronics manufacturing, spanning semiconductor fabs, OSAT, electronics manufacturing, and the broader high-technology ecosystem. The coming together of ASML and Tata for India’s semiconductor fab ecosystem will be a true game changer for the future of semiconductor manufacturing in India.”
He further emphasized, “This announcement also aligns strongly with the newly elevated India–Netherlands Strategic Partnership roadmap, which emphasizes innovation, advanced technologies, resilient semiconductor supply chains, research collaboration, and trusted high-technology ecosystems between the two countries. India’s growing focus on design, innovation, AI, advanced manufacturing, and deep-tech partnerships is now attracting the world’s most strategic technology leaders to participate in India’s semiconductor growth story.”
“The development further demonstrates that India is steadily emerging not only as a semiconductor manufacturing destination, but also as a trusted global hub for semiconductor innovation, engineering talent, and future technology collaborations truly in the spirit of TRANSFORM TOMORROW,” Chandak added.
Acknowledging the efforts of the Indian government and industry stakeholders in accelerating the country’s semiconductor mission, Chandak said, “The strong support and vision of Hon’ble Minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw and policy implementation by ISM / MeitY and multiple states have been instrumental in accelerating India’s semiconductor mission. IESA also appreciates the proactive leadership and initiatives of Her Excellency Ms. Marisa Gerards, Ambassador of the Netherlands to India, in strengthening semiconductor and technology collaboration between the two countries on continuous basis.”
Chandak also pointed to ASML’s increasing engagement with India’s semiconductor ecosystem following its participation at SEMICON India 2025 and subsequent leadership visits to the country. Chandak noted, “We are especially encouraged that ASML’s engagement with India has rapidly deepened following their maiden participation at SEMICON India 2025 along with their CEO, and the subsequent ASML leadership delegation visit to India in recent months.
These continuous engagements are now translating into strong country-to-country and company-to-company partnerships. This is a proud moment for the Indian semiconductor and electronics ecosystem, for IESA and SEMI members, and for all stakeholders working towards building India as a trusted global semiconductor hub.”
“India’s semiconductor momentum is now clearly moving from vision to execution and outcome,” he concluded.
