India Has The Ecosystem To Combat High-Profile Attacks, But Cybersecurity Is A Constant Journey: Infopercept

The Cyber Safety Review Board's (CSRB) latest report has brought to light a recent Chinese hack that targeted and compromised the email accounts of prominent U.S. government officials. This breach underscores the ongoing challenges posed by cyber threats to national security and the integrity of sensitive government communications. The CSRB's findings emphasize the need for robust cybersecurity measures and heightened vigilance to protect against such malicious activities.

Commenting on the high profile cyber-attacks, Jaydeep Ruparelia, CEO and Cofounder, Infopercept Consulting Pvt Ltd said, “The high-profile cyberattacks targeting a Government and its officials are not new. Nation-state attacks with an agenda beyond money are a reality that we all live in. And in the current geopolitical situation, this is going to increase for sure. When a nation is involved in launching cyberattacks on another nation, it is more lethal because there is no resource constraint of technology or humans.”

He further added, “The only way to combat such high-profile cyberattacks is to be vigilant every day and every hour. Without bothering about who is behind such attacks, government organizations should be proactively working on a cybersecurity strategy and its comprehensive execution. One way to do this is by using consolidated platforms that cover all approaches to cybersecurity: offensive security, defensive security, and security compliances. Without offensive security, these organizations will never know all the vulnerabilities in their ecosystem, and at times, security compliances are a better way to start the cybersecurity journey and reach a certain level of cybersecurity posture. Defensive security adds an additional layer to the overall cybersecurity approach. Such platforms not only cover the entire cybersecurity ecosystem, but their requirement of resources to run them is also less. And if managed services are also involved, then the government organizations don’t have to bother about trained resources to run such technologies.”

He stated, “India has the ecosystem to combat such attacks, but cybersecurity is a constant journey. The preparation should be hour by hour. Especially in nation-state attacks, the 'Make in India' cybersecurity technologies and platforms become of supreme importance, and this is beyond patriotic sentiment. Government organizations going for 'Make in India' cybersecurity technologies make sense in the following ways:

  • These technologies are built in India by Indians who understand our ecosystem of working as well as regulatory requirements.

  • They can make custom-built technologies according to the government organization's landscapes as the technology development team is in India.

  • When nations are involved in cyberattacks, it is safe to rely on indigenous technologies that can be trusted and controlled within India.”
