Google is reportedly preparing for another round of job cuts, impacting roles in advertising, sales, and marketing in India. According to the news portal startupro, the search engine company is expected to initiate the layoffs as early as next week, with Hyderabad and Bengaluru being the key locations affected.
The development comes as part of a broader global restructuring strategy, while the engineering department is safe from the immediate cut as Google is planning to reemploy more technical staff for additional high-growth projects such as artificial intelligence and cloud services. However, the number of affected employees is yet to be confirmed officially by the tech giant.
Googleโs recent termination of its engineering divisions, including the Android, Pixel, and Chrome teams, hints at its current focus on trimming non-technical functions. As per the reports, employees in sales, marketing, and advertising are more likely to be impacted in this round. However, rather than laying off engineering talent, startupro reports suggest that Google may redeploy technical staff to more strategic, revenue-generating projects.
Earlier this year, in February, Google also made job cuts to its technical division, though those reductions were part of a strategic and more targeted move by the tech company.
According to the tracking site Layoffs.fyi, more than 23,500 tech employees have lost their jobs in 2025 so far, spread across 93 companies globally. Google's ongoing efforts mirror a wider trend sweeping across the tech industry. Major players such as Microsoft, Meta, and Amazon have all announced job cuts in recent months, as companies recalibrate in response to the rapidly evolving demands of artificial intelligence, automation, and economic headwinds.
