Dissatisfied with the camera quality of the iPhone 16, Paytm CEO Vijay Shekhar Sharma publicly criticized the model on social media, suggesting he might switch to Google’s Pixel. On his X handle, Sharma called the Apple phone’s camera performance “so bad,” sparking a lively debate among users of the two leading mobile brands.
“I am surprised how the iPhone killed its camera (software/app) so badly in 16. It is so bad that I am seriously thinking of a Pixel now. Anyone else going through the same struggles?”
Reacting to the post, the COO at Tatler Asia, Previously - in leadership roles at Google, Apple, & Twitter replied, “Similar experience. Something’s seriously wrong with either the camera or the app.”
Another reaction came from Radhika Gupta, MD & CEO of Edelweiss Mutual Fund and Shark from Shark Tank, “The pixel is fab! Migrated from iPhone to it.”
Ever since the launch of the iPhone 16 on September 20, 2024, its AI capabilities have been under scrutiny. Users have reported touchscreen issues, including accidental edge touches and lagging responses. Specifically, in the Pro models, concerns have been raised about mediocre battery life and the functionality of the camera control button.
Apple phones have received profound hype for their camera quality, which is their USP. However, the Google Pixel 9 was released in India on 22nd August 2024, and offers improved camera performance, a larger screen, and improved battery life.
However, loyal Apple users showed shots taken from different iPhone models, arguing there is nothing wrong with the iPhone 16 either. At the same time, Pixel users also shared pictures taken from their devices, claiming the camera won’t disappoint due to its impressive algorithm, processing capabilities, and photographer-friendly features.
The Apple iPhone 16 and Google Pixel 9 are both flagship smartphones released in 2024, each offering unique features and capabilities.
The iPhone 16 offers a compact design with a high-resolution display and robust performance, making it suitable for users deeply grappling with Apple's ecosystem. In contrast, the Pixel 9 provides a larger, brighter display with a higher refresh rate, a more substantial battery, and advanced AI features, appealing to those who prioritize these aspects. The choice should align with users’ specific preferences and ecosystem loyalty.
This ongoing war of words seems unlikely to end anytime soon. However, if issues are being discussed on such a public forum, it’s a clear call for the brand to take action. After dominating the ecosystem with a monopoly for over a decade, Apple should focus on improving key aspects of its flagship devices, such as the camera and battery performance. Additionally, addressing these areas becomes even more crucial as the pricing continues to rise, aligning with public expectations.
