Chat Generative Pre-Trained Transformer or Chat GPT came into existence in November 2022. The chatbot was initially put in place as a prototype and soon enough it became popular for its articulate and detailed communicative answers across several knowledge domains. However, the factual accuracy was uneven and hence the Conversational Communication Format considered to be in a self-learning stage. Several contractors are assigned to train the AI on writing basic code and it is anticipated that soon enough Chat GPT will start working independently.
An Overview on Chat GPT
The language model Chat GPT is formulated on is - GPT-3.5, which applies deep learning technique responsible for articulate answers and detailed responses to a query. Although, the chatbot is designed to make a natural conversation, it can write and debug a difficult computer programme like, complex Python code and even write a poetry if commanded. But it needs human intervention, or simply say, training and guidance is required to accomplish the given task.
According to the news platform Semafor, from past six months, OpenAI is hiring in bulk, assigning eastern European and Latin American contractors to prepare database for its Artificial Intelligence Technology to learn Coding or software engineering task in natural language.
OpenAI works via Codex, a technology that works to convert simple language into coding. This is the tech that powers Copilot feature of GitHub as well
Threat to Google?
According to a report published in New York Times, increasing popularity of Chat GPT has been emerged as emergency situation before Google CEO Sundar Pichai and he aims to “demonstrate a version of its search engine with chatbot features this year” and launch over 20 AI-powered solutions in May to defeat its rival ChatGPT. The daily mail also mentioned about Sundar Pichai “calls in help from Larry Page and Sergey Brin for AI fight.” Further it mentions that “They approved plans and pitched ideas to put more chatbot features into Google’s search engine.” Also, it reveals about the “urgency felt among many Google executives about artificial intelligence and that chatbot, ChatGPT.”
Microsoft and ChatGPT
A small San Francisco based company OpenAI designed Chat GPT and if reports to be believed Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has been investing in pieces to make this happen. In 2019, Microsoft invested $1 billion in this small firm. And now, the news breaks in Forbes about extending partnership between Microsoft and OpenAI by investing $10 Billion to upgrade its cloud provider Azure.
Twitter and ChatGPT
Right now, the chatbot is non-profit and open source, but experts anticipate that eventually it may be payable. Initially. It was using database available on Twitter to train itself. As soon as Elon Musk learned about it, he put a stop on this practice and soon enough it has to pay for the information.
Cost and Usage of ChatGPT
ChatGPT, currently is a free-to-use platform, but discussions are going on ways to monetise this software. The chatbot is easy and simple to nevigate for a new user. To use Chat GPT, follow these simple steps:
1. First open ChatGPT website and make an account here.
2. Wait until your account request gets accepted, users who already have Dall-E 3 account can skip this step
3. Now you reach to the page where example prompts are given with information on ChatGPT functions
4. Scroll down to the bottom of the page to find a text box. Ask any of your queries to Chat GPT here
Ethics and AI ChatGPT
OpenAI has supplemented ChatGPT with warnings for wrong prompts, like; if you ask about ways to bully someone, you will get the reply that bullying is bad. Same goes on asking unethical questions. However, considering the fact that the chatbot is learning through Internet, it may pick up stereotypes, biases, jokes and general opinion available there.
Ban on ChatGPT in Schools
Right now, ChatGPT is banned in NYP schools in New York. And, two main reasons behind taking this step are:
1. The chatbot is not always accurate and makes mistakes, especially when it comes to details particularly from the past
2. Plagiarism is at stake as students can use Chat GPT to write their essays assignments or projects for them
Currently, the chatbot usage is stopped in New York and chances are strong that it may be prohibited in other places too. In this regard, a research scientist Kate Darling at MIT Media Lab said "ChatGPT and other AI-based language applications could be, and perhaps should be, integrated into school education. Not indiscriminately, but rather as a very intentional part of the curriculum. If teachers and students use AI tools like ChatGPT in service of specific teaching goals, and also learn about some of their ethical issues and limitations, that would be far better than banning them."
Features Of Chat GPT
1. It facilitates communication in a smooth conversational format
2. It applies reinforcement learning method, responsible for dynamic responses
3. It uses self-learning algorithms, hence, after every input, it analyses and trains itself through AI
4. It is a model sibling to InstructGPT, taught to catch instructions in prompts and answer in depth
5. It uses dialogue model that enables it to answer everything, respond to follow ups and even admit mistakes
6. It also fixes the bug even when responding to a query, apart from being good at debugging
7. It alters the way people use search engines by offering more than just providing links to browse
8. It uses GPT-3.5 language and currently costs absolutely nothing to use
9. It is suspected to be a replacement of human workers like, programmers and journalists
A tweet by an Amazon employee Jason DeBolt is considerable, “Ok this is scary. @OpenAI’s ChatGPT can generate hundreds of lines of Python code to do multipart uploads of 100 GB files to an AWS S3 bucket from the phrase “Write Python code to upload a file to an AWS S3 bucket”.
