Harsha Solanki, Vice President & General Manager – Asia at Infobip, has carved an impressive path in the technology industry, an arena largely dominated by men. Her journey is a testament to resilience, strategic thinking, and the ability to transform challenges into opportunities

Pursuing a Career in Tech: Passion for Innovation and Breaking Barriers

Reflecting on her decision to enter the tech industry despite its male dominance, Harsha shares, “Growing up in a traditional military family and later marrying an Indian Army officer, I was surrounded by discipline and structure, and my career path could have taken a very different turn. However, I found myself irresistibly drawn to the dynamic and ever-evolving world of technology. The tech industry, despite being predominantly male, never deterred me. Instead, it fueled my determination to carve out a space for myself. My academic foundation in Computer Science, followed by a PGDM in Telecommunications & IT Management from Symbiosis Institute of Management Studies, set the stage for my journey in tech.”

“My journey began in 2005 as a Marketing and Sales Manager at Starcorp, where I first honed my ability to bridge technical solutions with market needs. This role laid the groundwork for my next big step: over seven years at Smart Wireless Pvt. Ltd. as Senior Manager of Marketing Sales, where I deepened my expertise in driving growth and building strategies in a competitive landscape. A pivotal milestone came when I joined bSmart Tech Pvt. Ltd. as Country Head - India, a role that tested my leadership as the company was acquired by Infobip in 2014. That acquisition marked the beginning of a transformative chapter.”

“At Infobip, I have had the privilege of leading initiatives across India, while supporting the regional leadership teams in identifying and strategizing for new market opportunities across the larger APAC and Eurasia regions. Today, as VP General Manager Asia, my focus remains on driving innovation and strengthening our CPaaS infrastructure.”

“What prompted me to enter tech despite its male-dominated nature? It was the allure of solving real-world problems through cutting-edge solutions and the chance to challenge the status quo. Every milestone — from my early days at Starcorp to leading Infobip’s growth across Asia — has reinforced my belief that passion, persistence, and a focus on results can break through any barrier, gender or otherwise,” she states.

Turning Challenges into Opportunities

Having worked in the tech industry for nearly two decades, Harsha has encountered numerous challenges. However, she never let them become obstacles. She says, “In my journey so far, I have encountered various challenges—both professional and personal—but I have always viewed them as opportunities rather than obstacles. This mindset has been one of my greatest strengths.”

“Working in the tech industry, especially in a high-pressure environment, requires resilience, adaptability, and patience. Managing large teams, driving business growth across diverse markets, and navigating the complexities of the ever-evolving cloud communications landscape come with their own set of challenges. However, I believe self-motivation is the key to handling pressure and staying focused. By maintaining a solution-driven approach and remaining calm under pressure, I have been able to turn challenges into stepping stones for growth.”

“Leadership in a dynamic industry like ours also demands continuous learning and the ability to make quick, strategic decisions. Whether it was expanding Infobip’s footprint in new markets or ensuring the seamless adoption of cutting-edge CPaaS solutions, each challenge has reinforced my ability to lead with confidence and clarity,” she commented.

Balancing Work and Life: Finding Harmony Instead of Trade-offs

For many professionals, especially women in leadership, balancing work and family can feel like a constant struggle. But Harsha sees it differently. She notes, “Balancing work and family is an evolving journey rather than a fixed formula. Over time, I have realized that trying to maintain two separate identities—one for work and one for life—is neither practical nor sustainable. Many professionals either become workaholics or lifeaholics, but neither extreme is viable in the long run. Instead, I believe in finding a center where work and life are not in competition but in harmony.”

“For me, the key to this balance is recognizing that both aspects have one common denominator: You. Once you are anchored in your values and priorities, navigating between professional and personal responsibilities becomes a natural give-and-take rather than a constant trade-off. Achieving this balance is a gradual process, one step at a time, while staying true to what truly matters. As a leader, my guiding philosophy is rooted in gratitude. I believe that the greatest gift we can give is a portion of ourselves—whether through mentorship, collaboration, or simply being present for those who rely on us. I also strongly believe in philanthropy and make it a point to engage in altruistic activities, however small they may be.”

“One piece of advice I consistently offer to aspiring women leaders—regardless of industry—is to view challenges as opportunities rather than roadblocks. This mindset has been a cornerstone of my professional and personal journey, allowing me to grow, adapt, and thrive in dynamic environments,” she concluded.
