Bajaj Auto has confirmed that it was targeted in a ransomware cyberattack on June 23, affecting internal systems of the company as well as its wholly owned subsidiary, Bajaj Auto Technology Ltd. The company, however, has stated that its core business operations continue without disruption.

Attack Detected Early Morning, Response Teams Activated

According to the companyโ€™s disclosure, the incident was detected around 8:00 am IST on June 23. Immediately after identifying the breach, Bajaj Auto activated its internal cybersecurity protocols, involving technical response teams, senior management, and external cybersecurity experts to contain the attack.

The company said initial containment measures have been successful so far, limiting the impact of the breach across its systems.

CERT-In Informed as Per Regulatory Requirements

Bajaj Auto confirmed that the incident has been reported to the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In), in line with mandatory cybersecurity reporting norms. The disclosure was also made under Regulation 30 of the SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) framework.

However, the company has not provided details on the nature of the ransomware used or clarified whether any sensitive business or customer data may have been compromised during the incident.

No Operational Disruption Reported

Despite the cyberattack, Bajaj Auto has maintained that its manufacturing and operational processes remain unaffected. The company has not indicated any slowdown in production, supply chain activity, or dealer-level operations, suggesting that critical systems have either been isolated or remain secure.

Cybersecurity experts note that large manufacturing firms often maintain segmented digital infrastructures, allowing production systems to continue functioning even when corporate IT networks face disruption.

Rising Cyber Threats Targeting Manufacturing Sector

The incident highlights a growing global trend of ransomware attacks targeting automotive and industrial companies. As manufacturers increasingly rely on integrated digital systems for production planning, logistics, and supplier coordination, cyber risks have expanded significantly.

In recent years, several global automakers have faced similar disruptions. Industry observers point to high-profile cases where cyber incidents have resulted in production halts, financial losses, and operational delays, underscoring the vulnerability of connected manufacturing ecosystems.

Growing Focus on Cyber Resilience

The Bajaj Auto case adds to rising concerns over cybersecurity preparedness in Indiaโ€™s manufacturing sector. Experts believe such incidents will push companies to further strengthen digital defenses, invest in real-time threat monitoring, and enhance incident response systems.

While Bajaj Auto continues to assess the full scope of the breach, the company has assured stakeholders that containment efforts are ongoing and that it is working closely with cybersecurity agencies to secure its systems.

At present, no timeline has been provided for full restoration or detailed forensic findings, as investigations into the incident continue.
