Amitabh Nag, the CEO of BHASHINI - (Digital India BHASHINI Division), has taken on the role of Director for IndiaAI’s AI Kosh (India Dataset Platform) and the Application Development Initiative, marking a significant step in advancing the country's AI ecosystem. Taking to the professional networking site LinkedIn to share his excitement, he posted, “I’m happy to share that I’m given the Additional Charge as Director (India Dataset Platform (AIkosh) & Application Development initiative) at IndiaAI!”
Currently, Amitabh has been serving as the CEO of the BHASHINI (Digital India BHASHINI Division) and has been assigned the additional role as the Director of the association, in a strategic move to bolster the two core elements of the IndiaAI Mission.
Amitabh Nag, CEO of the BHASHINI - (Digital India BHASHINI Division), has been appointed as the director of AI Kosh and the IndiaAI Applications Development initiative — two key pillars of the IndiaAI Mission. Notably, Ashwini Vaishnaw unveiled the India AI Compute Portal, AI Kosh, and other key AI initiatives on the anniversary of the IndiaAI Mission, aiming to foster the nation's AI research and innovation ecosystem. Since its launch on March 6, AI Kosh has made available 323 datasets and 159 AI models, contributed by 11 organizations spanning 13 sectors, to drive AI innovation in India.
The recently launched initiatives include AIKosha: the IndiaAI Datasets Platform, the AI Compute Portal, the AI Competency Framework for public sector officials, iGOT-AI Mission Karmayogi, the IndiaAI Startups Global Acceleration Program in partnership with Station F, the IndiaAI Application Development Initiative, and IndiaAI FutureSkills. These efforts are focused on advancing AI research, innovation, and skill development.
Amitabh is a well-qualified professional, having earned a Diploma in Information Systems and IT, along with a Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering. With over three decades of experience, Amitabh began his professional journey at Iris Software Inc. as an executive, seizing opportunities while working with organizations such as Hinditron Informatics Limited, NIIT Technologies, and NextBrick Solutions. During an extensive tenure at Tata Consultancy Services, spanning over 14 years, he spearheaded key roles in strategy, marketing development, project management, policy engagement, business growth, team building, and financial oversight.
Amitabh has also worked with prominent companies, including HP, Coforge, and East India Udyog, where he held significant positions such as Chairman at the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and Advisory Board Member for Artificial Intelligence at the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Government of India.
Later, he served as the Chief Executive Officer at BHASHINI, a Digital India Corporation initiative under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). Amitabh continued to contribute as a Director at Digital India Corporation, a Member of the GPAI Working Group, and an Independent Director at the National Credit Guarantee Trustee Company.
