Park+ Research Labs announced key findings from its pan-India centric survey. The survey was answered by 1,330 EV car owners (bought an EV after 1st January 2024), the largest survey ever conducted in India for existing EV owners, to understand the mindset of relatively new EV car owners.
Cheaper ownership (29%), perceived environmental benefits (25%) and latest automobile tech adoption (21%), were the top three variables which triggered people to buy an EV car. Most OEMโs have been offering a 5 year warranty on their battery backs which have added to the confidence of potential EV buyers.
92% EV owners are happy with their purchase, with only 2% being unhappy. Having said that, respondents were primarily concerned about inaccessible charging infrastructure (24%), range anxiety associated with their car (23%), and charging anxiety, the time taken to charge their cars (21%).
Confidence builders like more EV cars on Indian roads (36%), improved charging stations (25%) and family/friends supporting an EV purchase (22%), have been key to making EV ownership easier.
EV ownership improvement areas include- Accessible and safe public charging points (30%), faster charging batteries (29%) and reduction in prices of EV cars (24%).
Lack of EV car clubs/community is a key challenge for current EV owners (71%). Respondents felt that their ownership experience could be improved if more EV clubs/communities could be nurtured for them to seek and transfer knowledge/ownership experiences.
Commenting on the findings, Amit Lakhotia, Founder & CEO, Park+ said, โThe Indian 4W EV story is still being written and the need of the hour is to engage with EV owners to understand their ownership experiences and expectations. From our survey which reached out to relatively new car owners, it has come to light that the owners are more informed, better researched and are not over expecting their EVโs to deliver unrealistic performance. Additionally, an interesting touchpoint which has been missing for EV owners is a lack of EV communities/clubs, which would have allowed them to share their ownership experiences. At Park+ we today host more than 25,000+ EV owners and aim to empower them to talk to each other and build a robust EV community, here in India.โ
The findings from Park+ Research Labs reveal a notable shift in consumer attitudes toward electric vehicles (EVs) in India. With 74% of EV owners planning to drive electric exclusively for life, the momentum toward sustainable mobility is undeniable. Addressing the importance of community to create shared experiences and knowledge, as well as the concerns about charging infrastructure and range anxiety will be vital for the future of the EV ecosystem.
