Sarvam AI has onboarded Sashikumar Sreedharan, former Managing Director of Google Cloud India, as President and Chief Business Officer (CBO). The appointment strengthens the company’s senior leadership team as Sarvam continues to expand its artificial intelligence portfolio, infrastructure capabilities and enterprise presence.

Sreedharan brings extensive leadership experience across the technology sector, having held senior positions at Google Cloud, Microsoft India and Happiest Minds. His experience spans cloud computing, enterprise technology, digital transformation and business strategy, adding a strong enterprise and commercial dimension to Sarvam’s leadership as it scales its operations.

Strengthening Leadership Capabilities

At Google Cloud India, Sreedharan was responsible for leading the company’s business and technology initiatives in the country and was involved in the expansion of sovereign cloud capabilities. His experience in working with enterprises on cloud adoption, technology infrastructure and data requirements aligns with the evolving needs of organisations adopting AI at scale.

Prior to Google Cloud, Sreedharan served as Managing Director of Microsoft India. He also held the position of CEO and Managing Director at Happiest Minds, adding experience in leading technology businesses and driving digital transformation initiatives.

Focus on Enterprise and Business Growth

As President and CBO, Sreedharan will be part of Sarvam’s leadership as the company works to expand the commercial application of its AI technologies. The company is developing AI models, speech technologies and infrastructure aimed at supporting Indian enterprises and public-sector organisations.

Sarvam has increasingly focused on building AI capabilities that can address requirements around Indian languages, data security and technology sovereignty. The company’s strategy includes developing AI infrastructure within India and supporting organisations that require greater control over their AI workloads and data.

Sreedharan’s background in enterprise technology and cloud infrastructure adds relevant experience as Sarvam works to expand its business relationships, partnerships and customer base.

Expanding AI Model and Infrastructure Portfolio

Sarvam is also scaling its AI research and product development efforts. The company is working towards a large-scale AI model aimed at applications including coding, cybersecurity, scientific research and simulation.

Its portfolio includes a 100-billion-parameter model focused on areas such as voice AI, conversational applications, English speech recognition and dictation. Sarvam has also developed Saaras V4, an in-house speech recognition model designed to support all 22 Indian languages.

Advancing Sovereign AI Capabilities

Sovereign AI remains an important part of Sarvam’s technology strategy. The company is working towards developing AI models and infrastructure that can operate within India’s regulatory and data environment.

For enterprises and public-sector organisations, this can include requirements related to data residency, security, governance and infrastructure control. Sarvam’s focus on these areas is aimed at enabling organisations to deploy AI while maintaining greater control over sensitive data and workloads.

Sreedharan’s previous experience with sovereign cloud initiatives provides relevant expertise as Sarvam develops this part of its business.

Expanding Global and Research Presence

Sarvam’s leadership expansion comes alongside efforts to strengthen its research capabilities and international presence. The company has been adding experienced AI researchers and advisors to its ecosystem while also planning a US presence to attract Indian-origin AI talent working globally.

The company has also secured significant institutional backing, including a $234 million funding round led by HCLTech and Bessemer Venture Partners. The investment has provided additional resources for Sarvam’s AI research, infrastructure and product development initiatives.

With Sreedharan joining as President and CBO, Sarvam is strengthening its leadership across both technology and business functions as it works to scale its AI portfolio and expand adoption among enterprises and institutions.
