Google Cloud has appointed Amit Kumar as the interim leader of its India operations, succeeding Sashikumar Sreedharan. The leadership transition comes at a significant time for the company’s India business, with cloud adoption, artificial intelligence and digital-native businesses driving a growing share of technology investments.

Amit has been with Google Cloud for more than five years and currently serves as Managing Director of the Digital Natives Business in India. In this role, he works closely with startups and digitally driven businesses, helping them adopt cloud, data and generative AI technologies to scale their operations.

Amit Kumar Brings Digital-Native and AI Focus

Amit’s current mandate gives him direct exposure to India’s startup and digital-native ecosystem, a segment that has become increasingly important as companies move from experimenting with AI to deploying it across business operations.

In September, Amit highlighted the shift in enterprise AI conversations from experimentation and scaling towards measurable business value and return on investment. He noted that businesses are increasingly evaluating AI deployments based on their ability to drive customer growth, cost efficiencies and outcomes at scale.

Google Cloud has also positioned Amit prominently in its engagement with India’s startup ecosystem. He recently served as a key speaker and moderator at the company’s 2026 Startup Summit, where discussions focused on agentic AI, voice AI, generative media and security.

Leadership Transition Comes Amid AI Expansion

The change at the top comes as Google Cloud continues to expand its engagement with Indian enterprises, startups and technology companies. AI is increasingly becoming central to that strategy, with cloud infrastructure, data platforms and generative AI services forming an important part of the company’s offering to Indian businesses.

Amit’s appointment therefore places an executive with a strong focus on digital-native companies and AI adoption at the helm of the India business during the transition.

Sreedharan Steps Down After Google Cloud India Tenure

Sashikumar Sreedharan has stepped down from his role as Managing Director of Google Cloud India. According to reports, Sreedharan is currently serving a garden-leave period and is set to join Indian AI company Sarvam AI as President and Chief Business Officer. Amit Kumar has subsequently been appointed interim MD of Google Cloud India.

Sreedharan’s next move into the Indian AI ecosystem comes as domestic AI companies increasingly seek to build leadership teams around sovereign AI infrastructure, models and enterprise adoption.

The leadership transition consequently connects two significant developments in India’s technology landscape: Google Cloud’s continued push into AI and cloud-led digital transformation, and the growing momentum around homegrown AI companies.

For Google Cloud India, Amit will now oversee the business as the company continues to deepen its engagement with enterprises, startups and digital-native businesses in one of the world’s fastest-growing technology markets.
