Dell Technologies is streamlining its sales team to create a new unit dedicated to AI products and services. On Monday, sales executives John Byrne and Bill Scannell announced in a letter to Dell staff, "We are getting leaner. Weโre streamlining layers of management and reprioritizing where we invest." The reorganization will include a shift in focus towards AI and a new approach to data center sales.
This restructuring will reduce Dell's workforce to 100,000 employees, involving the termination of tens of thousands of positions, according to Business Insider. The memo indicated that approximately 12,500 layoffs are planned. As of February, Dell employed around 120,000 people, so this latest round of layoffs represents about 10% of the company's total workforce.
The executives outlined their vision for the sales division, stating, "We aim to grow faster than the market by seamlessly meeting our customers and partners online, virtually, or in person, to unlock the value of modern IT and AI for their organizations." They added, "The world of AI is moving fast, and we are expanding our AI GTM capability."
