Canon India announced the adoption of Tongtala village in Baruipur, West Bengal, marking the 11th village to join its ‘Adopt a Village’ flagship initiative. The initiative marks the continued expansion of Canon’s efforts towards driving inclusive and sustainable growth within communities across India.

The inaugural ceremony featured a keynote address by Mr. Toshiaki Nomura, President & CEO, Canon India, in the presence of Mr. Kailash Khandelwal, Director, Humana People to People India leadership.

As part of the initiative, Canon India will work closely with the Tongtala community and local stakeholders to identify priorities and undertake need-based interventions with a focus on creating sustainable opportunities and improving standard of living. These efforts will be guided by Canon India’s 4Es CSR approach – Education, Eye Care, Environment, and Empowerment, with the aim of strengthening community resilience, encouraging self-reliance and supporting sustainable development at the grassroots levels.

Speaking on this milestone, Mr. Toshiaki Nomura, President & CEO, Canon India said, “At Canon, we believe meaningful change begins when communities are empowered to shape their own futures. For over 14 years, this belief has been reflected in our ‘Adopt a Village’ initiative, which has focused on creating meaningful and lasting impact across rural India. With Tongtala in West Bengal, our 11th adopted village, we are taking this commitment forward and extending our efforts to another community. Central to this effort is the active role of our employees, who continue to translate the spirit of community development into meaningful actions. Through these collective efforts, we aim to scale more inclusive growth while building resilient communities from the grassroots.”

Since its launch in 2012, Canon India’s ‘Adopt a Village’ initiative has supported the overall development of communities across India through sustained interventions, positively impacting more than 300,000+ lives with the participation of over 12,000+ Canon volunteers. With the 11th adopted village, the initiative continues to build on this long-standing journey of creating meaningful and sustainable impact across communities.
