Bosch to Lay Off Nearly 7,000 Employees, Confirms CEO Stefan Hartung

Bosch has announced a mass layoff of 7,000 employees, as reported by Times of India. According to the reports, CEO Stefan Hartung revealed that “In recent months, Bosch has repeatedly announced plans to reduce jobs worldwide. This latest move affects over 7,000 jobs in Germany, primarily in the automotive supply sector, but also in the tools division and the BSH subsidiary that handles household appliances.”

The company will not be achieving its economic target of 2024 confined CEO. In 2023, the company generated close to 98 billion USD in revenue. Hartung noted that the return on sales for this year is projected at 4 percent, down from last year’s 5%, with a target of achieving 7% by 2026. “Bosch will not achieve its economic goals in 2024, At the moment, I cannot rule out that we will have to further adjust our staffing resources,” said he.

The reports are also doing rounds, despite the job cuts, Bosch is underway acquiring Irish firm Johnson Controls’ Residential and Light Commercial (R&LC) HVAC business, which is estimated to be the biggest acquisition by the company so far. This is an all-cash transaction with Bosch acquiring Johnson Controls’ North American ducted operations and its global Residential joint venture with Hitachi, in which Johnson Controls holds 60% and Hitachi 40%. The trade is costed a total value of $8.1 billion, with Bosch’s share estimated at approximately $6.7 billion. With this possession, the company strengthens its position in the air conditioning and heat pump industries with reports from daily mail estimating it at around $8 billion.
