All India: BonV Aero has entered the International Book of Records for an achievement in high-altitude drone technology. The company, a key supplier of heavy-lift drones to the Indian Army, completed a hover flight at 19,000 feet, carrying a 30kg payload, setting a world record for drone operations at high altitudes.
This accomplishment highlights 10 years of growth under the "Make in India" and "Startup India" initiatives led by the Prime Minister. These initiatives have played a role in promoting innovation, supporting entrepreneurship, and increasing local manufacturing, particularly in defense and aerospace sectors.
The Bhubaneshwar based startup firm BonV Aeroโs test was conducted at Umlinga La Pass, the highest motorable pass in the world at 19,024 feet. The drone lifted a 30 kg payload and hovered at 19,000 feet with a maximum takeoff weight of 100kg. This flight demonstrated Indiaโs progress in drone technology, particularly in regions where helicopters like the Cheetah have payload limitations.
"This record is important for BonV Aero and shows how 'Make in India' and 'Startup India' have supported our growth," said Satayabrata Satapathy, Co-founder & CEO, BonV Aero. "These initiatives have enabled companies like ours to develop technology that addresses national needs. Our work with the Indian Army reflects the benefits of these programs," he added.
The Cheetah helicopter, used for missions in high-altitude areas like Siachen, can carry only 20kg at these altitudes. BonV Aero's drone, however, has proven it can lift heavier payloads, creating new possibilities for transport and logistics in remote areas.
The "Make in India" program has supported the growth of manufacturing in India, while "Startup India" has encouraged ventures into high-tech fields. BonV Aeroโs growth is an example of how these government programs have helped companies develop technologies for national needs.
"This is the start of what drones can achieve at high altitudes," said Abinash Sahoo (Co-founder & CTO, BonV Aero. "The support from 'Startup India' has allowed us to explore new applications for our technology, including defense and humanitarian missions in remote areas."
With this achievement, BonV Aero aims to continue developing heavy-lift drone technology. The company plans to further innovate in areas that address critical logistics needs in both military and civilian sectors. This accomplishment reflects the progress made under 'Make in India' and 'Startup India' in enabling Indian companies to develop local solutions for global challenges.
