India's mobile connectivity challenges extend beyond network coverage, according to a new study commissioned by POVA and conducted independently by CyberMedia Research (CMR). Based on a survey of 2,000 smartphone users aged 18โ35 across Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Kolkata, the study found that 79% of smartphone users experience call drops or connectivity interruptions while travelling on highways, while 67% of business users reported losing clients, deals, orders, or payments due to poor signal performance.
More than 83% of respondents said they feel anxious or helpless when an important call gets interrupted, and 71% reported having to reconnect with customers after a dropped call.
The findings suggest that connectivity disruptions are increasingly affecting both personal and professional experiences.
As noted by Prabhu Ram, VP-Industry Research Group (IRG), CyberMedia Research (CMR) in the report, while India has made significant progress in expanding mobile coverage, consistent connectivity remains a challenge in real-world environments such as highways, transit routes, and low-signal zones. The report further notes that the impact extends beyond a single dropped call, with users linking connectivity interruptions to missed business opportunities, disrupted conversations, and lower confidence during critical moments.
The study also explored whether device-level innovations can contribute to improved connectivity experiences. Among frequent highway travelers using smartphones equipped with advanced triple-signal optimization technology, 81% reported an improved signal experience, 74% reported more reliable calling performance, and 72% reported faster signal recovery after passing through weak-coverage areas.
The study was commissioned by POVA as part of an effort to better understand the connectivity challenges faced by Indian smartphone users, particularly in on-the-move environments where reliable network performance remains critical.
