Product Review: Infinix SMART 20
Digital Terminal Ratings(4 / 5)
The budget smartphone market continues to evolve, with brands striving to offer premium features at affordable prices. The Infinix SMART 20 enters this space with a focus on design, durability, smooth performance, and practical AI features, while introducing an interesting offline communication capability. Here's our take on how the device shapes up as an everyday smartphone.
Design and Build Quality
The Infinix SMART 20 makes a strong first impression with its 7.7mm ultra slim profile, making it one of the slimmest smartphones in its segment. Despite housing a large battery, the phone feels comfortable to hold and surprisingly lightweight during prolonged use.
The 3D Texture Composite Panel gives the rear a refined appearance while improving grip and minimizing fingerprints and scratches. The finish feels more premium than expected for a smartphone in this price range, and the available colours, including Shadow Black, Polaris Titanium, Sunlike Orange, and Cloudline Blue, provide users with multiple style options.
Durability is another area where the SMART 20 stands out. It carries an IP64 rating, offering protection against dust and water splashes. Infinix also claims the device has successfully passed more than 25,000 drop tests and can withstand accidental drops of up to 1.5 metres. Combined with Oil and Greasy Touch Resistance, which keeps the display responsive even with wet or oily fingers, the phone is built to handle the challenges of everyday life.
Display Performance
The SMART 20 features a 6.78 inch Punch Hole display, providing an immersive viewing experience that feels larger than many competing devices in the same category. One of its biggest strengths is the 120Hz refresh rate, which makes scrolling through social media, navigating menus, and switching between applications noticeably smoother. The higher refresh rate also improves responsiveness while gaming and contributes to an overall premium user experience.
With brightness levels reaching 700 nits, the display remains adequately visible under outdoor lighting conditions. Colour reproduction is vibrant, viewing angles are satisfactory, and the punch hole design gives the phone a more modern appearance compared to traditional notch displays. While an AMOLED panel would have further enhanced the viewing experience, the LCD display performs well for entertainment, casual gaming, and everyday multimedia consumption at this price point.
Performance and Everyday Experience
Powering the SMART 20 is the MediaTek Helio G81 Ultimate processor, which is designed to deliver reliable performance across everyday tasks. The device comfortably handles social media, web browsing, video streaming, messaging, and multitasking without significant slowdowns. The Helio G81 Ultimate is not aimed at hardcore gamers, but it handles popular casual titles comfortably and delivers a dependable experience for day-to-day usage.
Memory management is assisted by up to 8GB Extended RAM, achieved through 4GB physical RAM and 4GB MemFusion technology. Storage options include 64GB and 128GB, with expansion support of up to 2TB via microSD card, giving users plenty of flexibility for photos, videos, and applications. Infinix also highlights its 48 Month Fluency Certification, suggesting that the software has been optimized to maintain consistent performance over an extended period of ownership.
Connectivity Innovation
Perhaps the most distinctive feature of the SMART 20 is Ultra Link, which introduces a completely different approach to smartphone communication. Ultra Link enables offline calling, messaging, voice note sharing, and image transfer without requiring a SIM card or mobile network, with a communication range of up to one kilometre. While this may not replace traditional cellular connectivity, it can prove valuable during outdoor adventures, emergency situations, remote work environments, or locations with poor network coverage.
Complementing this feature is Voiceprint Noise Reduction with three intelligent noise cancellation modes that help improve voice clarity during phone conversations in noisy surroundings. These additions make the SMART 20 one of the more innovative smartphones available in the affordable segment.
Software and AI Experience
The SMART 20 runs XOS 16 based on Android 16, bringing a cleaner interface along with several AI-powered productivity features. The One Tap Infinix AI feature, activated through the power button, allows users to quickly access the Folax Voice Assistant for tasks such as making calls, creating reminders, scanning documents, identifying songs, answering queries, and activating the Speaker Cleaner function.
Support for multiple Indian regional languages improves accessibility and makes the AI assistant more useful for a wider audience. The software feels responsive and includes practical AI tools that enhance the everyday user experience without overwhelming the interface.
Battery Life and Charging
Battery performance is one of the SMART 20's strongest qualities. The smartphone houses a 5200mAh battery, which comfortably lasts an entire day of regular usage involving browsing, streaming, navigation, social media, and voice calls. Moderate users may even achieve well over a day's usage on a single charge.
Charging support includes 15W wired charging, with the charger included in the retail box. The 15W charging speed isn't the fastest in its segment, but it is adequate for everyday users, especially considering the phone's large battery capacity. The addition of 5W reverse wired charging is a thoughtful bonus, allowing the device to charge compatible accessories or even another smartphone when required.
Camera Performance
The SMART 20 features an 8MP rear camera accompanied by an 8MP front camera. In daylight conditions, the primary camera captures images with satisfactory colour reproduction and sufficient detail for social media sharing. Portraits and selfies are suitable for everyday use, while video calling quality remains reliable.
The camera software includes several useful shooting modes, including Super Night Mode, Dual View Video, Vlog Mode, Panorama, Pro Mode, and Document Scanning, giving users additional creative flexibility despite the modest hardware. The cameras won't compete with higher-end smartphones, but they are capable enough for everyday photography, video calls, and social media content.
Pricing and Availability
The Infinix SMART 20 is available in two storage variants:
• 4GB RAM + 64GB Storage – ₹12,499
• 4GB RAM + 128GB Storage – ₹13,999
The smartphone is offered in four colour options: Shadow Black, Polaris Titanium, Sunlike Orange, and Cloudline Blue.
DT Verdict
The Infinix SMART 20 delivers a balanced mix of style, durability, dependable performance, and practical features, making it a strong contender in the affordable smartphone segment. Its slim design, smooth 120Hz display, reliable battery life, AI-powered software, and the unique Ultra Link offline communication feature help it stand out from many conventional budget smartphones.
While the cameras and charging speeds remain fairly basic, the overall experience is well suited for students, first-time smartphone buyers, and users looking for a dependable everyday device. Based on its design, display, durability, innovation, and overall value, we rate the Infinix SMART 20 4 out of 5 stars.
