GITAM Hosted 9th Dr. V. Bhujanga Rao Endowment Lecture in Association with CMSI

The Department of Mechanical Engineering, GITAM Institute of Technology, GITAM (Deemed to be University), Visakhapatnam Campus in association with Condition Monitoring Society of India (CMSI) recently hosted the 9th Dr. V. Bhujanga Rao Endowment lecture. Several eminent industry experts were present at the lecture, including, Dr. V. Bhujanga Rao, Distinguished Scientist and Former Director General, DRDO and ISRO Chair Professor and presently, Chairman, KIMS Foundation Research Centre, Hyderabad. Also, present was Prof. Nalinaksh S. Vyas, IIT-Kanpur, and Chairman - Technology Mission for Indian Railways (TMIR), Ministry of Railways, Government of India. 

Prof. V. Srinivas, Head of Department, Dept. of Mechanical Engineering gave the introductory remarks on the lecture and enlightened students, faculty members and researchers about the importance of the endowment lecture. Dr. V. Bhujanga Rao Chairman, spoke about a few broad aspects of technology changes and how they would be taking place in the future. He added that maintenance of industrial equipment was important to achieve maximum productivity and how condition monitoring is going to protect national assets and save government money. 

Prof. Nalinaksh S. Vyas gave a presentation on major technology upgradation happening in Indian Railways through the application of Internet of Things and Data Management. In his lecture, he focused on real life problems in aerospace, railway, automotive, process industry domains where condition monitoring is involved at the system level and the possibility of developing Deep Learning paradigms for grappling with such systems. Application of neural networks for various engineering problems like condition monitoring, computer vision, automatic speech recognition and bioinformatics were also discussed.  

Pro-Vice-Chancellor of GITAM (Deemed to be University) – Prof. Jayasankar Variyar and PVS Ganesh Kumar, Vice President, Condition Monitoring Society of India, were some of the other eminent personalities present at the lecture.
