In a business landscape increasingly defined by digital transformation, organizations must harness technology to drive agility, security, and operational excellence. Devinder Singh, Head of IT Infrastructure and SecOps at Policybazaar, stands at the forefront of this evolution. With a career spanning network engineering, systems administration, cloud migration, and cybersecurity, he has developed a leadership philosophy that balances deep technical expertise with strategic business insight.

In this conversation, Devinder Singh reflects on the early experiences that shaped his approach to technology leadership, shares how he aligns emerging innovations—ranging from AI and cloud-native architectures to zero-trust security frameworks—with business objectives, and discusses his long-term vision for creating a secure, agile, and customer-focused enterprise.

Q: What inspired you to pursue a career in technology and how did your early experiences shape your leadership?

A: From the beginning, I was drawn to the way technology could bridge gaps between vision and execution. My early career as a network engineer and systems administrator gave me a deep technical foundation, but more importantly, it taught me discipline, problem-solving under pressure, and the importance of teamwork. Moving through progressively senior roles in infrastructure, cloud migration, and cybersecurity, I learned that leadership is not about controlling every detail, but about creating clarity of purpose, aligning people with the mission, and empowering them to deliver. Those formative experiences instilled my belief that technology leadership must be grounded in both technical mastery and business acumen.

Q: How do you balance business objectives with rapid technology evolution, especially in areas like AI, cloud, and cybersecurity?

A: The key is to treat technology not as an expense but as a strategic enabler. I begin with a clear understanding of the business’s goals, then identify how emerging technologies—such as AI-driven analytics, cloud-native architectures, or zero-trust cybersecurity—can deliver measurable outcomes. I prioritize flexibility through modular, scalable solutions that allow for rapid adoption without operational disruption. Strong governance frameworks, robust risk assessments, and continuous stakeholder engagement ensure innovation is aligned with compliance and ROI. This approach transforms technology evolution into a competitive advantage instead of a disruptive force.

Q: What is your long-term vision for driving digital transformation in your organization, and how do you measure its success?

A: My vision is to create a secure, cloud-first, AI-enabled enterprise where agility, customer experience, and operational efficiency are seamless. This includes modernizing infrastructure, automating processes, enhancing data-driven decision-making, and embedding cybersecurity at every layer. I measure success not only in cost optimization or uptime but also in reduced time-to-market, increased service availability, and strengthened customer trust. In essence, transformation is successful when technology becomes invisible to the user—working so well that it enables innovation without friction.

Q: How do you mentor and motivate your IT/security teams to stay innovative while ensuring operational excellence?

A: I believe in leading by example—demonstrating strategic thinking, ethical responsibility, and adaptability. I encourage my teams to experiment within controlled environments, fostering a “fail fast, learn faster” culture. Continuous learning is embedded into the workflow, with certifications, skill-building workshops, and cross-functional projects. Recognition plays a key role, ensuring contributions are visible and valued. By aligning personal growth with organizational objectives, I cultivate teams that are not only technically skilled but also agile, motivated, and invested in delivering secure, transformative solutions.
