Technology is no longer just a support function—it is the engine of business innovation and transformation. Vartul Mittal, Technology and Innovation Specialist, brings nearly two decades of experience turning technological possibilities into measurable business impact across BFSI, manufacturing, telecom, and services. From his early days experimenting with code to leading global transformation initiatives, he has built a career at the intersection of strategy, execution, and innovation.

In this conversation, Vartul shares his approach to navigating rapid technological evolution, aligning AI, cloud, and cybersecurity initiatives with business goals, cultivating high-performing teams, and creating sustainable digital transformation that delivers both operational excellence and strategic growth.

Q: What inspired you to pursue a career in technology and how did your early experiences shape your leadership?

A: Growing up in a Tier-2 city in a middle-class family, technology was not just a career choice - it was my gateway to possibility. I was fascinated by how a few lines of code or a process redesign could create impact far beyond its origin. Early roles taught me two lifelong lessons: Every problem has a solution if you look at it from the right angle, and technology is only valuable when it solves a business challenge. Over nearly two decades across BFSI, manufacturing, telecom, and services, I have transformed from a hands-on technologist into a global transformation leader - driving strategy, shaping culture, and delivering measurable business outcomes.

Q: How do you balance business objectives with rapid technology evolution, especially in areas like AI, cloud, and cybersecurity?

A: In today’s world of AI breakthroughs, cloud adoption, and ever-increasing cybersecurity risks, my guiding principle is simple: start with the business outcome, not the technology. I partner with leadership to define impact metrics - be it revenue uplift, cost optimization, or experience enhancement - and then select the right digital levers to get us there. From implementing GenAI-led automation for process efficiency, to migrating core workloads to secure cloud environments, to embedding security-by-design into every initiative, the focus remains on solutions that are scalable, sustainable, and outcome-driven.

Q: What is your long-term vision for driving digital transformation in your organization, and how do you measure its success?

A: My long-term vision is to build a data- and AI-powered enterprise where agility, scalability, and customer value creation are part of the DNA. This means embedding analytics, intelligent automation, and cloud-native architectures into everyday operations while fostering a culture that embraces innovation and change. Transformation success is measured not by the number of projects launched, but by tangible metrics - reduced cycle times, improved NPS, operational cost savings, and higher employee productivity. Governance frameworks ensure that this progress is transparent, measurable, and repeatable.

Q: How do you mentor and motivate your IT/security teams to stay innovative while ensuring operational excellence?

A: Technology changes fast, but people are the true drivers of transformation. I invest heavily in building high-performing teams - creating an environment where experimentation is encouraged, learning is continuous, and wins (big or small) are celebrated. Initiatives like hackathons, cross-functional sprints, and targeted skill-building in AI, automation, and cybersecurity keep the innovation engine running. At the same time, operational excellence is sustained through disciplined governance, clear accountability, and performance metrics linked to business outcomes.

My role is to be the bridge - connecting vision with execution, strategy with action, and innovation with measurable value. Looking back, the journey from a small-town dreamer to a global technology leader has been defined by one belief: when purpose meets technology, transformation becomes inevitable.
