JioStar has stepped up its anti-piracy enforcement efforts in Odisha, with multiple FIRs registered against local cable operators for allegedly retransmitting JioStar television channels without authorisation. Recent cases have been registered across Bhadrak, Kandhamal and Ganjam, adding to earlier enforcement action in districts including Jajpur, Keonjhar and Puri.
In Bhadrak, Bonth Police Station registered an FIR on 2 September 2026 against cable operator of Tillo village under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 63 of the Copyright Act. The complaint says that JioStar channels were being received and retransmitted through a cable network serving Tillo, Jirina and adjoining areas without authorisation. Video evidence recorded on 28 August 2026 was submitted to the police, showing channels including Star Kiran, Colors, Star Plus, Star Gold, Star Sports 1 Hindi and Colors Cineplex Bollywood being retransmitted with DTH platform logos.
A similar case was registered in Kandhamal, where Daringbadi Police Station registered an FIR on 10 September 2026 against M/s Star Cable Network. The complaint says unauthorised retransmission of JioStar channels through the network and the use of consumer DTH Set-Top Boxes for receiving and redistributing the channels. Electronic evidence recorded on 9 September 2026 was submitted along with the complaint.
The enforcement activity is part of a wider effort by JioStarโs Anti-Piracy Legal and Enforcement Team to identify unauthorised cable networks operating in Odisha. The enforcement record also includes FIRs against operators in Ganjam, Puri, Jajpur and Keonjhar, reflecting activity across multiple districts in the state.
The cases also highlight the continued issue of unauthorised analogue transmission despite the implementation of the Digital Addressable System (DAS). JioStarโs enforcement efforts seek to protect its content and distribution rights while supporting compliance with the digitised cable television framework.
