At least two people have died and several others sustained injuries after a three-storey under-construction building collapsed in Old Delhi’s Chawri Bazar area on Thursday morning. Rescue operations are underway at the site, with emergency teams searching for people who may still be trapped beneath the debris.

The incident was reported around 9:50 am from Gali Sitara, near Chawri Bazar Metro Station. Following the collapse, at least six fire units, including water tenders and rescue vehicles, were rushed to the location. Senior officials are supervising the ongoing rescue operation, according to reports quoting officials.

Witnesses Describe Sudden Collapse

A local resident, Mohd Nayeem, told ANI that he woke up after hearing a loud crashing sound. Initially, residents feared that their own house had collapsed, but they later discovered that the neighbouring under-construction building had come down.

Nayeem said that when residents rushed outside, they saw a body being pulled out from the debris. He also recalled that three or four lintels had already been cast and appeared to have collapsed together.

According to his account, one of the injured labourers told residents that around three or four people were present at the construction site. Nayeem added that construction work on the building had been underway for the past three to four months.

Rescue Operation Continues

Emergency personnel are continuing rescue efforts to locate and assist anyone who may remain trapped under the rubble. The number of injured people and their current medical condition have not yet been fully confirmed in the information available.

Further details regarding the cause of the building collapse and the circumstances surrounding the construction work are awaited.
