Several Dubai-bound travellers reportedly spent more than 24 hours at Delhi airport, with passengers staging a sit-in protest over the lack of clear updates and basic assistance.
Passengers travelling from Delhi to Dubai with SpiceJet were reportedly left stranded at Indira Gandhi International Airport after their flights faced prolonged delays. What was expected to be a routine international journey turned into an overnight ordeal, with several travellers forced to wait inside the terminal for extended periods.
Visuals from the airport showed exhausted passengers sitting on the terminal floor with their luggage. As the delay continued and departure updates remained unclear, frustration among the travellers reportedly escalated into a sit-in protest.
Passengers Wait for More Than 24 Hours
According to reports, some passengers had been waiting at the airport for more than 24 hours.
One Dubai-bound flight scheduled to depart on Monday morning had reportedly not taken off even after the scheduled departure time had passed. Another flight planned for later in the evening also remained grounded, adding to the uncertainty faced by travellers.
Passengers who had planned their journey around a fixed flight schedule were left waiting for information about when they would finally be able to depart.
Sit-In Protest Inside Terminal
With the delays continuing, affected passengers reportedly staged a sit-in inside the airport terminal. They demanded clear information from the airline along with basic support during the prolonged wait.
The situation raised concerns over essential arrangements such as food, accommodation, passenger assistance and revised departure schedules.
Images and videos from the airport showed travellers surrounded by their bags and personal belongings, highlighting the difficult conditions faced by those waiting for their flights.
SpiceJet Responds to Disruption
Responding to the disruption on Tuesday, a SpiceJet spokesperson apologised to the affected passengers.
The airline said it was working to arrange alternate flights to help the stranded travellers reach Dubai. However, the prolonged delay had already caused significant inconvenience to passengers, many of whom had spent an entire day at the airport.
The incident has once again highlighted the importance of timely communication and passenger support during flight disruptions, particularly on international routes where travellers may require additional arrangements.
For the affected passengers, the immediate priority remains securing alternate travel arrangements and reaching their destination after the unexpected delay at Delhi airport.
