As the annual Shri Amarnath Yatra commenced on Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his heartfelt greetings to devotees embarking on the sacred pilgrimage to the Amarnath Cave Shrine in Jammu and Kashmir. In a message addressed to pilgrims, the Prime Minister described the yatra as a "matter of great privilege" and encouraged devotees to undertake the journey with a spirit of devotion, responsibility, and service.
The pilgrimage, one of Hinduism’s most revered annual religious events, attracts lakhs of devotees from across India who travel to seek the blessings of Baba Barfani, the naturally formed ice Shivling inside the Amarnath cave.
PM Calls for Five ‘Sankalps’ During the Yatra
In his message to devotees, Prime Minister Modi urged pilgrims to observe five key "Sankalps" (resolves) throughout their spiritual journey. These include:
Maintaining cleanliness
Ensuring safety and discipline
Protecting the environment
Supporting the local economy
Contributing to national service
The Prime Minister emphasized that these commitments would not only enhance the spiritual significance of the pilgrimage but also help preserve the region's ecological balance while benefiting local communities.
Pilgrims Continue Journey Under Tight Security
The Prime Minister's message coincided with the departure of the second batch of pilgrims from the Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas in Jammu, where authorities have put in place extensive multi-layered security arrangements to ensure a safe and smooth pilgrimage.
Security agencies, civil administration, and emergency response teams have been deployed along the pilgrimage routes to facilitate the annual yatra, which passes through challenging mountainous terrain.
Festive Atmosphere Along the Pilgrimage Route
Adding to the spiritual fervour, the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board's Yatri Niwas at Chanderkote in Ramban district was illuminated with the colours of the Indian tricolour, creating a festive atmosphere as thousands of devotees began their journey toward the holy shrine.
The annual pilgrimage remains an important religious, cultural, and economic event for Jammu and Kashmir, generating seasonal employment and supporting businesses linked to tourism, transport, hospitality, and local trade.
A Journey of Faith and Responsibility
In his letter, Prime Minister Modi described the opportunity to undertake the Amarnath Yatra as an unforgettable spiritual experience for millions of Shiva devotees. He extended his best wishes to all pilgrims, expressing hope that the sacred journey would be completed safely and peacefully while inspiring collective responsibility towards nature, society, and the nation.
As the pilgrimage progresses, authorities continue to monitor weather conditions, manage logistics, and coordinate security measures to facilitate one of India's most significant annual religious gatherings.
