Fuel prices across India have witnessed a fresh upward revision, with petrol, diesel and compressed natural gas (CNG) rates increasing in Delhi and other major cities amid sustained volatility in global energy markets and continued pressure on crude oil and gas supply chains.

The latest revision has pushed overall fuel costs higher across categories, with petrol and diesel recording cumulative increases alongside a ₹2 per kg hike in CNG, directly impacting transportation expenses for both private and commercial users.

Petrol Prices Rise by ₹3 in Delhi

Petrol prices in Delhi have increased by ₹3 per litre, moving from ₹94.77 to ₹97.77 per litre. The revision reflects ongoing fluctuations in global crude oil prices, which continue to influence domestic retail fuel rates.

The increase is expected to impact private vehicle owners, delivery services and small businesses dependent on petrol-powered logistics, adding to monthly transportation expenses.

Diesel Prices Increase by ₹1 per Litre

Diesel rates in the national capital have been raised by ₹1 per litre, from ₹89.67 to ₹90.67 per litre.

Given diesel’s critical role in freight movement, agriculture supply chains and intercity transport, even a marginal increase has a wider economic ripple effect, gradually contributing to higher logistics and distribution costs across sectors.

CNG Prices Hiked by ₹2 per Kg

Compressed natural gas (CNG) prices in Delhi have been increased by ₹2 per kg, rising from ₹77.09 to ₹79.09 per kg.

In the Mumbai Metropolitan Region as well, CNG prices were similarly revised upward by ₹2 per kg earlier, taking rates to around ₹84 per kg, according to market updates.

Since CNG is widely used in public transport systems including auto-rickshaws, taxis and city buses, the increase is expected to directly impact daily commuters and urban mobility costs.

Total Fuel Cost Impact Across Segments

Taken together, the latest revisions reflect a combined upward shift across fuel categories, with petrol up by ₹3 per litre, diesel up by ₹1 per litre, and CNG up by ₹2 per kg in key urban markets.

This cumulative increase is expected to have a noticeable impact on household transportation budgets and operating costs for commercial transport operators, especially in metro cities where fuel dependency is high.

Global Energy Volatility Behind Price Movement

The price hikes are being attributed to ongoing volatility in global energy markets, driven by geopolitical tensions, supply chain uncertainties and fluctuations in international crude oil and natural gas prices.

Disruptions in key energy transit routes and concerns over supply stability have further contributed to uncertainty, leading to periodic upward adjustments in domestic fuel pricing.

Policy Context and Market Dynamics

Fuel pricing in India is largely linked to international benchmarks and currency movements, making it sensitive to global crude trends. While domestic authorities continue to monitor inflationary pressures, retail fuel rates ultimately reflect changes in global energy markets.

According to media sources, policymakers are balancing inflation control concerns with the realities of import-linked pricing structures, especially as energy remains a critical component of India’s consumption basket.

Economic Impact on Transport and Inflation

The combined increase in petrol, diesel and CNG prices is expected to exert upward pressure on transportation and logistics costs, which may gradually feed into broader inflation.

Essential commodities and services that rely on fuel-intensive supply chains could see indirect cost increases, while urban commuters are likely to face higher daily travel expenses.

Outlook Remains Sensitive to Global Trends

With global crude oil and gas markets continuing to remain uncertain, further price adjustments cannot be ruled out in the near term. Domestic fuel pricing is expected to remain closely tied to international developments and supply-demand dynamics.

For now, the latest hike underscores the ongoing transmission of global energy pressures into India’s retail fuel ecosystem, affecting consumers, businesses and transport networks across the country.
