Odisha has strengthened its position as one of India's fastest-growing clean energy investment destinations by signing a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) with Japan's IHI Corporation and ACME Group for green energy and infrastructure projects worth ₹67,000 crore.

The agreement marks another major milestone in the state's ambitious plan to become a global hub for green hydrogen, green ammonia, and sustainable industrial development while supporting India's clean energy transition.

Mega Investments Across Green Ammonia and Methanol Projects

Under the MoC, multiple large-scale projects will be developed across strategic industrial locations in Odisha.

The proposed investments include:

  • ₹20,000 crore for a 0.4 MTPA Green Ammonia Plant at Gopalpur-Tata SEZ

  • ₹1,000 crore for developing jetty-less floating terminal infrastructure

  • ₹34,000 crore for a 0.8 MTPA Green Ammonia Project at Paradip

  • ₹12,000 crore for establishing a Green Methanol production facility

Together, these projects are expected to create approximately 7,000 direct employment opportunities, while boosting Odisha's industrial ecosystem.

Odisha Emerges as Green Hydrogen Investment Hub

With the latest agreement, Odisha has now approved 12 major green hydrogen and green ammonia projects, attracting cumulative investments exceeding ₹2 lakh crore.

According to the state government, these projects are expected to generate more than 36,000 jobs, significantly strengthening Odisha's role in India's emerging green energy economy.

The investments also align with India's broader objective of reducing carbon emissions, promoting renewable fuels, and building a globally competitive green manufacturing sector.

Green Industrial Corridors Under Development

To support these investments, Odisha is developing two dedicated green industrial corridors spanning Paradip, Kendrapara, and Gopalpur.

These industrial clusters are designed to facilitate large-scale production of green hydrogen, green ammonia, green methanol, and green steel while improving export infrastructure and attracting global manufacturers.

Officials believe the integrated ecosystem will help position Odisha as a preferred destination for clean energy investments in Asia.

Driving India's Energy Transition

As governments and industries worldwide accelerate investments in low-carbon technologies, Odisha continues to attract major domestic and international investors seeking opportunities in renewable energy and sustainable manufacturing.

The partnership with IHI Corporation and ACME Group further reinforces the state's ambition to become a leading contributor to India's clean energy goals while supporting industrial growth, exports, and long-term employment generation.
