Mercedes-Benz India has issued an official advisory confirming that all its BS VI petrol vehicles are fully compatible with E20 (20% ethanol-blended) fuel, following claims by popular YouTuber Sourav Joshi that his luxury SUV's fuel efficiency dropped sharply after refuelling.
Mercedes-Benz Responds
In a statement shared on social media, the automaker said:
"All Mercedes-Benz petrol BS VI vehicles are materially compatible with E20 fuel and certified accordingly by relevant authorities."
The company reiterated that its BS VI petrol models are designed and approved to operate on E20 fuel.
What Sourav Joshi Claimed
Popular daily vlogger Sourav Joshi recently shared a YouTube video in which he claimed the mileage of his Mercedes-Benz SUV had fallen dramatically within two days.
According to Joshi:
The vehicle's mileage reportedly dropped from 17 km/l to 9 km/l.
It later fell further to around 5 km/l within 48 hours.
He expressed concern over the sudden decline and suggested it coincided with the use of ethanol-blended petrol.
No Confirmation Linking E20 Fuel to Mileage Drop
While Mercedes-Benz has confirmed that its BS VI petrol vehicles are compatible with E20 fuel, the company has not stated that E20 caused the mileage issue highlighted by the vlogger.
Vehicle fuel efficiency can be influenced by several factors, including:
Driving conditions
Traffic congestion
Driving style
Vehicle maintenance
Fuel quality
Weather and terrain
There is no official evidence at this stage directly linking Sourav Joshi's reported mileage drop to E20 fuel.
