Madhya Pradesh is moving ahead with plans to establish an AI-ready data centre in Bhopal, with state authorities and Submer holding high-level discussions to accelerate infrastructure development for next-generation computing. The initiative is focused on building the power and utility infrastructure required to support high-density AI workloads.

State Leadership Reviews AI Data Centre Infrastructure

Following the announcement of the proposed AI-ready data centre, Submer’s leadership team held discussions with senior Madhya Pradesh government officials over the weekend.

On September 19, the team led by Dev Tyagi met with Neeraj Mandloi, Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister, and Chandramauli Shukla, Managing Director of MPIDC. A further strategic meeting with the Principal Secretary, IT was held on September 20.

The discussions focused on accelerating the infrastructure roadmap for the planned facility at Acharpura, Bhopal.

Power Infrastructure Critical for AI Compute

A key priority identified during the meetings was the development of dedicated, high-capacity power infrastructure for the allocated site.

AI data centres require significantly higher computing and power capabilities than conventional data centre facilities. Reliable and redundant electricity infrastructure is therefore essential for supporting high-density computing environments and ensuring operational resilience.

The discussions also covered broader utility requirements and long-term infrastructure planning for the Bhopal facility.

Submer and Madhya Pradesh Government Step Up Collaboration

Submer has appreciated the speed with which the state administration has engaged with the project, with discussions taking place across both Saturday and Sunday to move the initiative forward.

The company also acknowledged the support of the Government of Madhya Pradesh, MP Industrial Development Corporation (MPIDC) and MPSeDC under the Department of Science and Technology in facilitating the proposed digital infrastructure investment.

Bhopal Eyes Role in India’s AI Infrastructure Growth

The planned development forms part of a broader ambition to position Bhopal as a destination for advanced digital infrastructure.

Submer and the state government are looking to build an ecosystem around sovereign AI, green computing and technology skilling, with the proposed data centre expected to serve as an important component of that vision.

The focus on resilient power, sustainable infrastructure and high-density AI computing reflects the changing requirements of India's data centre industry as demand for AI infrastructure continues to grow.

Infrastructure Push Could Strengthen Bhopal’s Digital Ambitions

The next phase of the project will depend on translating the infrastructure discussions into concrete power and utility plans for the Acharpura site.

If successfully executed, the initiative could strengthen Bhopal’s position in the emerging AI infrastructure landscape while supporting Madhya Pradesh’s broader efforts to attract technology investments, develop skilled talent and build capabilities around next-generation computing.
