Noida International Airport officially commenced commercial passenger operations on Monday with the successful arrival of its first scheduled flight from Lucknow, marking a major milestone in India's rapidly expanding aviation infrastructure. The inaugural service signals the beginning of regular passenger operations at the much anticipated airport in Jewar, which is expected to emerge as one of the country's largest aviation hubs and significantly enhance connectivity across northern India.

Inaugural IndiGo Flight Marks Historic Beginning

The first commercial flight to land at Noida International Airport was IndiGo flight 6E-2278, which departed from Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport in Lucknow and touched down at 7:55 AM on Monday. The historic arrival was celebrated by passengers with applause, while the aircraft received a traditional water cannon salute after landing, symbolizing the official commencement of commercial services.

The return flight, IndiGo 6E-2279, is scheduled to depart Noida at 6:55 PM and arrive in Lucknow at 8:00 PM, establishing the first regular air link between the two cities.

A New Chapter for Uttar Pradesh's Aviation Network

The launch of commercial operations at Noida International Airport represents a significant boost for Uttar Pradesh's aviation ecosystem. Until now, many travelers commuting between Noida and Lucknow relied on Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport or lengthy road journeys.

The new direct connection is expected to improve travel convenience for business professionals, government officials, and leisure travelers while strengthening connectivity between the state's administrative and commercial centers.

More Airlines Set to Join Operations

The airport's operations are set to expand further as Akasa Air begins daily services to Bengaluru and Navi Mumbai from June 16, becoming the second airline to operate from the new airport.

Meanwhile, cargo operations are scheduled to begin on June 17, with the airport's first domestic cargo flight marking another important step in developing Jewar into a comprehensive aviation and logistics hub.

World Class Infrastructure Built for Future Growth

Developed under a Public Private Partnership (PPP) model by Yamuna International Airport Private Limited, a subsidiary of Zurich Airport International AG, the airport has been designed to accommodate future growth in passenger and cargo traffic.

The facility features a 3,900 metre runway capable of handling wide body aircraft along with advanced aviation infrastructure, including an Instrument Landing System (ILS) and modern airfield lighting to support safe operations under varying weather conditions.

Advanced Security Systems in Place

Authorities have implemented a multi layered security framework to ensure passenger safety from day one. The airport is equipped with AI powered surveillance systems, while nearly 1,030 CISF personnel have been deployed to oversee security operations.

In addition, the Uttar Pradesh Police has established a dedicated police station within the airport premises to strengthen law enforcement and emergency response capabilities.

Strengthening India's Aviation Vision

Inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 28, Noida International Airport is expected to play a transformative role in easing congestion at Delhi's airports while supporting regional economic development, tourism, logistics, and business growth.

With commercial flights now operational and additional passenger and cargo services set to follow, the airport begins its journey as one of India's most ambitious greenfield aviation projects, reinforcing the country's commitment to expanding world class air connectivity and modern transport infrastructure.
