An IndiGo flight travelling from Delhi to Chennai was diverted to Hyderabad on Sunday, October 11, 2026, after smoke was detected from a passenger’s personal electronic device, reportedly a power bank, onboard the aircraft.
Flight 6E 6115 landed safely at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) in Shamshabad, Hyderabad, following the incident. According to the airline, the cabin crew responded promptly and brought the situation under control.
Flight Lands Safely in Hyderabad
The diversion was carried out after smoke was noticed inside the aircraft cabin. The crew acted quickly to manage the situation, and the aircraft reached Hyderabad safely.
The flight was originally scheduled to operate between Delhi and Chennai. Further details about the device, the extent of the incident and the subsequent flight arrangements were not immediately available.
Power Bank Safety Concerns During Air Travel
Power banks contain lithium-ion batteries, which can overheat or catch fire if damaged, defective or improperly handled. Such incidents can pose safety risks aboard aircraft, where a quick response from cabin crew is essential.
Passengers should follow airline instructions regarding the carriage and use of power banks, keep devices protected from damage and immediately inform cabin crew if a battery becomes unusually hot, swells, emits smoke or produces an unusual smell.
The incident once again highlights the importance of battery safety and emergency preparedness during air travel.
