Gautam Adani and his family have returned to the top of India’s wealth rankings, overtaking Mukesh Ambani and his family, according to the M3M Hurun India Rich List 2026. The latest ranking reflects a significant shift in the wealth positions of two of India’s most prominent business families.
Adani Wealth Rises 13%
According to the 2026 Hurun ranking, Gautam Adani and his family’s wealth increased by 13% to ₹9.23 lakh crore, equivalent to approximately $96 billion.
The increase has helped the Adani family regain the number-one position in the list, reversing the previous standing between the two business groups.
Mukesh Ambani Moves to Second Position
Mukesh Ambani and his family were placed behind the Adani family in the latest ranking. Their combined wealth was reported at ₹8.63 lakh crore, or around $90 billion.
Unlike the Adani family, Ambani’s wealth declined during the period covered by the 2026 list, falling by approximately 10%.
The resulting gap between the two families stands at roughly ₹60,000 crore, based on the wealth figures cited in the ranking.
Wealth Rankings Reflect Changing Business Fortunes
The movement at the top highlights how rapidly the wealth rankings of India’s leading business families can change with fluctuations in the value of their listed and privately held business interests.
Both the Adani and Reliance groups have significant exposure to multiple sectors, making changes in company valuations an important factor behind movements in their reported family wealth.

The latest Hurun list underlines the continued scale of wealth creation among India's leading entrepreneurs and business families.
