A tragic road accident on the Yamuna Expressway in Uttar Pradesh's Mathura district claimed the lives of at least four people and left more than 20 others injured after a Volvo passenger bus rammed into a trailer truck in the early hours of Tuesday.

According to police officials, the accident occurred around 4:00 a.m. between milestones 112 and 113 under the jurisdiction of the Raya Police Station. The Volvo bus, operated by Gola Bus Service, was carrying approximately 65 passengers when it collided with the rear of a trailer moving along the expressway.

Front Portion of Bus Destroyed in High-Impact Collision

The force of the collision severely damaged the front section of the bus, trapping several passengers inside and triggering panic among those onboard.

Authorities said four passengers died at the scene due to the impact, while 20 to 25 others sustained injuries of varying severity. Emergency responders and local police rushed to the accident site, launching a rescue operation to evacuate the injured and restore traffic movement on the expressway.

The injured were shifted to nearby hospitals, where they are receiving medical treatment. Officials have not yet released the identities of the victims, pending notification of their families.

Rescue Operations Launched Immediately

Police personnel, along with emergency response teams, reached the scene shortly after receiving information about the crash. Rescue workers used specialized equipment to remove passengers trapped inside the mangled vehicle before transporting the injured to medical facilities.

Traffic on the affected stretch of the Yamuna Expressway was temporarily disrupted as authorities cleared the damaged vehicles and conducted rescue operations.

Investigation Underway

Police have initiated an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident. Preliminary findings indicate that the bus collided with the trailer from behind, though officials are examining factors such as driver fatigue, speed, road visibility, and mechanical conditions.

The Yamuna Expressway, which connects Greater Noida with Agra, is among India's busiest high-speed corridors. Despite modern infrastructure, the expressway has witnessed several serious accidents over the years, prompting repeated calls for stricter enforcement of speed limits and enhanced road safety measures.

Authorities are expected to release further details as the investigation progresses.
