In a significant development impacting India’s food service and small business ecosystem, the price of commercial LPG cylinders has witnessed a sharp increase effective May 1, 2026. The revision has pushed the cost of a standard 19 kg commercial cylinder in Delhi beyond the ₹3,000 mark, intensifying concerns over rising operational expenses for restaurants, eateries, and street vendors.
Sharp Price Jump for Commercial Cylinders
According to the latest revision, the price of a 19 kg commercial LPG cylinder in Delhi has climbed to ₹3,071.50, reflecting a steep hike of ₹993 compared to its previous rate of ₹2,078.50. This marks the third consecutive increase in commercial LPG prices in recent months, indicating sustained pressure on fuel costs.
Commercial LPG is widely used across food businesses such as restaurants, dhabas, and canteens. Industry observers note that repeated price hikes are likely to translate into higher menu prices, as businesses attempt to offset increased input costs. From large dining establishments to small tea stalls and street food vendors, the ripple effect is expected to be widespread, ultimately impacting consumers.
Mini LPG Cylinders Also See Price Rise
In addition to commercial cylinders, the price of 5 kg Free Trade LPG (FTL) cylinders has also been revised upward. These smaller cylinders, commonly used by students, working professionals, and individuals living in PG accommodations or hostels, have become significantly more expensive.
The cost of a 5 kg cylinder has risen by ₹261, taking the new price to ₹810 from the earlier ₹549. This increase adds to the financial burden on individuals who rely on these compact cylinders for daily cooking needs.
Domestic LPG Prices Remain Unchanged
While commercial and small-cylinder segments have seen notable increases, domestic LPG prices have been kept unchanged for now. In Delhi, the price of a standard 14.2 kg household LPG cylinder continues to stand at ₹913. Other metro cities show similar stability, with Kolkata reporting a price of ₹939 for the same category.
The decision to hold domestic LPG prices steady may provide temporary relief to households, even as commercial users face mounting cost pressures.
New Booking and Delivery Rules Introduced
Alongside price revisions, authorities have implemented changes to LPG booking and delivery processes. In urban areas, the minimum gap between two domestic cylinder bookings has been extended from 21 days to 25 days. In rural regions, this interval could stretch up to 45 days.
Additionally, a new delivery authentication system has been introduced. From May 1 onwards, customers must provide a One-Time Password (OTP) at the time of delivery to receive their LPG cylinder. This measure aims to streamline distribution and enhance transparency in the supply chain.

The latest price escalation is closely linked to ongoing geopolitical tensions affecting global energy supply chains. Despite a ceasefire between the United States and Iran, disruptions continue due to restricted maritime movement through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical route for global oil and gas transportation.
