The alleged irregularities in donations made to the Ram Temple in Ayodhya have entered a new phase after Uttar Pradesh Police registered the first FIR in the case. The FIR names eight individuals accused of alleged theft, criminal breach of trust, and embezzlement of devotees' donations, following the preliminary findings of a Special Investigation Team (SIT).
FIR Registered Following SIT Report
The case was registered at the Ram Janmabhoomi police station based on a complaint filed by Krishna Mohan, a member of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust. The action follows the submission of the SIT's preliminary report to the Uttar Pradesh government, which reportedly recommended criminal proceedings after identifying alleged lapses in the handling and accounting of donations.
Police have booked the accused under multiple provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including charges related to criminal conspiracy, theft, criminal breach of trust, and misappropriation of property.
Eight Named in the Case
According to police records, the FIR names eight individuals, including personnel associated with the counting and handling of donations collected at the temple. Authorities allege that the accused were involved in irregularities related to cash and valuables offered by devotees.
Police have begun taking action against those named in the FIR, and investigations are expected to determine the extent of the alleged financial irregularities and whether additional individuals were involved.
Investigation Enters Criminal Probe
The FIR marks the transition of the matter from an administrative inquiry to a formal criminal investigation. The SIT was constituted earlier this month following allegations of irregularities in the management of temple donations. Its preliminary report reportedly highlighted deficiencies in supervision, record keeping, and the handling of donated cash and valuables.
Investigators are expected to examine financial records, donation management procedures, CCTV footage, and the roles of personnel responsible for counting and securing donations.
Further Action Likely
Officials have indicated that the investigation remains ongoing and that further arrests or legal action could follow depending on the evidence collected. The case has attracted significant public attention because of the scale of donations received by the temple and the importance of ensuring transparency in their management.
The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust has stated that it sought the investigation to ensure a thorough probe into the allegations and maintain public confidence in the administration of temple donations.
