Apple India is reportedly set to bring on board seasoned brand strategist Shagun Seda as its Head of Marketing Communications, as per industry sources. The move, once formalized, will mark her transition from her current position as Senior Vice President, Marketing Creative Strategy and Communications at JioStar.
The development signals Apple’s continued focus on strengthening its storytelling and consumer engagement approach in India, a market that has become central to its global growth strategy.
From entertainment ecosystems to global tech storytelling
Shagun Seda’s professional journey spans more than two decades across India’s most influential media, entertainment, and streaming organizations. Over the years, she has built a reputation for shaping high-impact brand narratives that merge culture, content, and consumer emotion into unified communication strategies.
Her leadership stints include key roles at Viacom18 Media Private Limited and Netflix India, before taking on a senior strategic mandate at JioStar, where she has been instrumental in defining large-scale brand and communication frameworks.
Driving identity for one of India’s largest media integrations
At JioStar, Seda played a central role in building the marketing and communication architecture for the merged entity formed through the integration of Viacom18 and Star India. Supported by Reliance and Disney, the platform today reaches more than 450 million monthly active users across television and digital ecosystems.
Her responsibilities extended across a diverse portfolio of high-engagement properties, including global sporting and entertainment events such as the Indian Premier League, ICC tournaments, Pro Kabaddi League, Wimbledon, and the Olympics. Her approach consistently focused on turning large-scale live properties into culturally resonant audience experiences.
Among the standout initiatives under her leadership was the digital livestream of Coldplay’s “Music of the Spheres” tour in India, which emerged as one of the most widely engaged digital live entertainment experiences in the country, drawing millions of viewers online.
She also contributed to shaping the communication strategy for IPL 2025, which went on to become one of the most widely consumed editions of the tournament, with an estimated cumulative reach of around one billion viewers across television and digital platforms.
In parallel, she was involved in conceptualizing digital-first cultural broadcasts, including live streaming of major religious and cultural events such as Mahashivratri and Ram Navami, positioning streaming platforms as immersive cultural participation spaces rather than just content destinations.
Strong foundation built during Netflix India tenure
Before joining JioStar, Seda held a leadership role at Netflix India as Head of Brand, Film and Series Marketing. During this period, she was part of the team that worked on expanding Netflix’s cultural relevance in India and strengthening its positioning among mainstream audiences.
Her campaigns for globally popular titles such as Money Heist and Stranger Things played a key role in driving audience engagement and building stronger local resonance for international content, helping the platform deepen its footprint during a crucial growth phase.
Expected impact at Apple India
If the appointment goes through, Seda’s arrival is expected to bring a strong blend of entertainment-led storytelling and technology brand experience to Apple India’s communications strategy. Her track record of building large-scale, culturally embedded campaigns positions her well to contribute to Apple’s premium brand positioning in an increasingly competitive and dynamic Indian market.
