Union Minister Mr Piyush Goyal Met Etsy CEO Mr Josh Silverman in New York

As part of an outreach to discuss ways to improve the ease of doing business in India, Union Minister of Commerce, Mr. Piyush Goyal, met with Mr. Josh Silverman, CEO, Etsy, in New York on Monday.

During the conversation, Minister Goyal highlighted some reforms democratising India’s digital landscape and also discussed how the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), can help transform the lives of small sellers and artisans.

The two shared views on the future of small business in India and how Etsy is emerging as a leading voice and financial enabler for small sellers and artisans across the country. India is the first emerging market that Etsy has identified as core to its future growth

Commenting on the meeting, Mr. Josh Silverman, CEO, Etsy said, “Etsy’s mission is to Keep Commerce Human and we’re committed to leveraging our platform to empower and connect small sellers and artisans in India with millions of buyers around the world looking for something special. With the right tools and opportunities, our sellers and their communities thrive and we’re excited to continue deepening our roots in India. I thank Minister Goyal for his time and for giving me the opportunity to discuss how Etsy can support the maker community in India in partnership with the Indian Government.”

Etsy will continue a dialogue on finding ways to promote Indian handicrafts and small local businesses.
