Krafton India has renamed its upcoming lightweight version of Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) from BGMI Lite to BGMI Air, introducing a new identity for the game ahead of its planned launch by the end of 2026. The company confirmed the change on October 15 through a post on the game's verified Instagram account, stating, “BGMI LITE is now BGMI Air. Lighter name, same heavy action.”

The announcement marks a branding change for the game, which Krafton first introduced in August. However, the company has not announced a confirmed release date or any changes to the game's technical requirements following the rebranding.

BGMI Lite Gets a New Identity as BGMI Air

The announcement artwork shows the transition from the BGMI Lite icon to the new BGMI Air branding, retaining the helmeted character featured in the earlier identity. The new name continues to reflect the game's lightweight positioning, aimed at making BGMI accessible to players using devices with limited hardware capabilities.

Krafton has not announced any changes to the game's core features or gameplay alongside the name change. The company had previously promoted the project under the tagline “Nothing Less, Just Lighter,” highlighting its focus on delivering the BGMI experience to users with entry-level smartphones.

The game's Instagram account continues to use the handle @bgmi_lite.official, with further updates to its digital presence expected as the rebranding progresses.

Android Availability and Cross-Play Details

BGMI Air was first announced on August 16, 2026, with Krafton targeting a launch by the end of the year. Pre-registration opened on Google Play for Android users on August 25, while the initial download size was indicated to be around 1GB.

Promotional material has listed a minimum requirement of 1.5GB RAM and an Adreno 306 GPU. However, Krafton has not announced whether these requirements will change following the rebrand.

One of the key features confirmed earlier is cross-play support. BGMI and BGMI Air players will be able to play together, while existing BGMI accounts will work without requiring an ID transfer. The feature is intended to let users on lower-specification devices participate alongside players using the main version of the game.

Release Date Remains Unconfirmed

Despite the new name, Krafton has yet to announce an exact release date for BGMI Air. Its stated launch timeline remains the end of 2026, although some reports have pointed to November. An exact date should be treated as unconfirmed until the company publishes an official announcement.

Krafton has also not clarified whether existing Google Play pre-registrations will automatically carry over to the renamed game. Players should wait for official guidance before taking any additional steps.

The company’s next announcements are expected to provide greater clarity on availability and launch arrangements. Until then, BGMI Air remains on track for its previously announced year-end window, with the rebranding representing the main confirmed development.
