Asha Sharma has stepped into the role of Chief Executive Officer of Xbox at Microsoft, marking a defining leadership transition for one of the world’s most influential gaming platforms. Her appointment signals a renewed focus on creativity, technology leadership, and AI driven innovation as Microsoft Gaming enters its next phase of growth.

Before assuming leadership at Xbox, Sharma served as President, CoreAI Product at Microsoft, where she oversaw a comprehensive global portfolio spanning AI models, applications, intelligent agents, developer platforms, and responsible AI frameworks. In that capacity, she played a central role in translating advanced AI research into scalable, enterprise-ready products, ensuring innovation was paired with governance and long-term sustainability.

In a message shared on LinkedIn, Asha Sharma reflected on the legacy she now leads. “Today I am honored to step into the role of CEO of Microsoft Gaming,” she wrote. “Over the last 25 years, Xbox has grown to reach more than 500 million monthly active players around the world.” She highlighted the strength of nearly 40 studios across Activision Blizzard, Bethesda Softworks, Blizzard Entertainment, King, Mojang Studios, and Xbox Game Studios, which collectively steward some of the most iconic franchises in entertainment including Halo, Minecraft, The Elder Scrolls, Call of Duty, World of Warcraft, Diablo, Candy Crush Saga, and Fallout.

Her career reflects a consistent ability to scale high-impact digital ecosystems. In addition to her executive leadership at Microsoft, Sharma serves on the boards of The Home Depot and Coupang, where she contributes strategic insight across retail transformation and global e-commerce expansion.

Previously, as Chief Operating Officer at Instacart, Sharma guided the company through a period of accelerated growth, helping lead it to IPO and profitability while managing a $30 billion-plus GMV P&L. Her earlier leadership roles at Meta saw her head product and engineering for Messenger and Instagram Direct, strengthening global communication platforms at massive scale. She also played a key role in building Porch Group, contributing to its $1 billion public debut.

With deep expertise across artificial intelligence, digital commerce, social ecosystems, and marketplace platforms, Sharma steps into the Xbox leadership role with a rare combination of operational rigor and visionary product thinking. Her appointment positions Xbox to advance beyond traditional gaming boundaries, integrating intelligent systems, adaptive experiences, and next-generation platform capabilities to shape the future of interactive entertainment.
