OpenAI Chooses OCI To Leverage AI Platform Of Microsoft Azure

Oracle, OpenAI, and Microsoft have come together in a pivotal collaboration to expand the Microsoft Azure AI manifesto by leveraging Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) to supply additional capacity to OpenAI.

The Collaboration

OpenAI has strategically turned towards Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) to expand its existing AI platform, mainly operated on Microsoft Azure. This collaboration is significant in terms of OpenAI’s commitment to leveraging cutting-edge cloud technologies to advance its artificial intelligence research and applications.

Key Points of the Collaboration

  • The leading infrastructure of OCI will ensure a robust AI innovation by integrating Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.

  • The summation will leverage the OCI’s enhanced performance and security features.

  • The progress is expected to boost OpenAI’s efficiency.

  • With the integration of OCI and Microsoft, the capacity of two leading cloud providers will join together to provide OpenAI with a more versatile and powerful infrastructure.

  • Utilizing multiple cloud platforms allows OpenAI greater flexibility and redundancy.

  • This collaboration will allow OpenAI with greater flexibility and generate bigger possibilities.

  • The leading AI infrastructure of OCI will ensure greater advancements in AI innovations.

  • Various AI innovators, running their AI workloads at OCI AI infrastructure across the world would come together.

  • The purpose-built AI capabilities of OCI will help startups and enterprises with faster building and training of their models in the cloud distributed by Oracle.

OCI Supercluster Capabilities

OCI Supercluster claims to be capable enough to train large language models (LLMs) of up to GB200 Grace Blackwell Superchips or 64k NVIDIA Blackwell GPUs attached with a range of HPC storage and RDMA cluster networking with ultra-low-latency specialty. OCI’s Bare-metal of NVIDIA GPU and Virtual machines (VMs) of OCI Compute instances can boost products for generative AI, recommendation systems, computer vision, natural language processing, and more.

Strategic Benefits

The strategic partnership between Oracle, OpenAI, and Microsoft is focused on driving innovation and AI research, resulting in the development of more advanced AI models. Alongside, the above deal will enhance Oracle’s reputation and market share in the cloud infrastructure. More importantly, OpenAI will secure a place where it will tackle future challenges with utmost ease in AI research and application development. This will also encourage other organizations to adapt to multi-cloud strategies for better performance and resilience.

With the deal, companies like Adept, Modal, NVIDIA, Reka, Suno, MosaicML, Together AI, xAI, Twelve Labs, and others already using OCI Supercluster will be able to train and infer next-generation AI models.

“We are delighted to be working with Microsoft and Oracle. OCI will extend Azure’s platform and enable OpenAI to continue to scale,” states Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI.

“The race to build the world’s greatest large language model is on, and it is fueling unlimited demand for Oracle’s Gen2 AI infrastructure.” Also, “Leaders like OpenAI are choosing OCI because it is the world’s fastest and most cost-effective AI infrastructure,” reveals Larry Ellison, CTO and Chairperson of Oracle.
