Digital Terminal concluded the 10th edition of its prestigious DT Partners Summit 2024, providing a valuable platform for channel partners, tech leaders, and the entire IT community to network and discuss the industry’s growth. The keynote speech was the event’s biggest highlight, as it provided the attendees an opportunity to translate the insights from the speaker’s precious experience.

At the DTPS 24 event, Alok Gupta, President of PCAIT, highlighted the association’s 18-year achievement and its collective approach to the growth of its members, containing 15% of members either engaged in manufacturing under the Make in India initiative or have transitioned from distributors to independent software vendors (ISVs) developing their own software. Also, Mr. Gupta shared his association’s success mantra - “Judo, Jodo, Aage Badho” with industry professionals. The association now boasts around 20 presidents and general secretaries.

While talking about the struggles and challenges faced by the retail sector, he underscored the significance of a collective approach to address the staggering situation. Addressing the challenges, he noted that midsize system integrators (SIs) struggle with large-scale projects due to the growing trend of Ticket size orders. Often, such projects become subcontracted work for the members, even though the government has directed it towards the MSME sector.

The second challenge concerns retailers, who have been facing stagnant growth and shrinking margins over the past four years as business and margins are coming down. This is the feedback from over 100 partners with more than 2,000 exclusive stores across India. Instead of insisting on the online business, small retailers in smaller cities prefer the traditional market setup with customers visiting the store and making the purchase. Many B-class city partners as exclusive brand retailers are shutting their stores or subletting them to employees on a profit-sharing basis because the online model isn't viable for them. As the association president, he called out the members on the grounds of 'moral responsibility' to unite, engage with OEMs, and push for policy changes, especially since 94% of retailers do not have their own websites.
