Keynote Speech by Industry Veterans
DT Awards 2024 offered a platform for knowledge sharing and networking, culminating with thought-provoking keynote speeches that served as an inspiration to the IT fraternity.
Sanjiv Krishen, Founder & CMD of Iris Global Services Pvt. Ltd., captivated the audience with his keynote speech at the 16th DT Awards 2024. Presenting the example for opportunities in the education sector he told about PHN Technology and its young founder’s success story in introducing a better and quicker way of teaching technical students developing Robots and Drones.
“In most technical schools, typically, a single robot and drone are purchased, allowing students to learn programming through shared access. However, in this case, each student receives an individual kit containing all the components needed to build a robot and a drone. This innovative approach has already secured an order worth ₹500 crores, with an additional ₹100 crore order potentially in the pipeline. This example highlights the vast opportunities available when businesses think beyond traditional IT box selling. It also underscores the potential to bring innovative learning tools to classrooms, creating new and exciting experiences for students,” he stated.
He further discussed the company’s success in securing large-scale projects under the Nirbhaya Fund for enhancing public safety across railway stations. “Another promising area is the installation of CCTVs under the Nirbhaya Fund, which the government has allocated for enhancing safety across all railway stations nationwide. Railway stations are categorized into five tiers: A, B, C (larger stations in metropolitan areas), and D and E (smaller stations). We have secured an order for D and E category stations in the Western Railway zone, covering Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and Maharashtra, with a project value of nearly ₹90 crores. This showcases the significant potential in this sector, encouraging active participation to capitalize on similar opportunities,” he added.
Mr. Devesh Rastogi, President of FAIITA, delivered a compelling keynote speech at the event, shedding light on the transformative role of FAIITA in the ICT industry and its advocacy for channel partners across India. He emphasized the organization’s commitment to fostering innovation, resolving trade disputes, and ensuring equitable growth for channel partners. Highlighting FAIITA’s significant achievements, he noted, “An association federation for over 100 associations working on the district and the state levels through their federations and associations in their states, FAIITA ensures overall development of the channels in innovations, opportunities, and trade disputes.”
Addressing the price disparity between online and offline platforms, he shared, “In 2019, prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, we established an agreement with all major laptop brands, marking a significant milestone in IT retail trade. One of the key achievements of this collaboration, strongly advocated by FAIITA, was the implementation of a price protection policy. Unlike many other industries, this initiative ensured fair pricing across channels. As part of the program, over ₹100 crores have collectively been paid by laptop brands to dealers to maintain price parity. Every dealer registered with these brands is now able to sell products at online portal prices. Upon activation, they are reimbursed the price difference, ensuring equitable opportunities across offline and online markets.”
Talking about the second major initiative taken by FAIITA to upgrade IT business, IT fraternity, and make business hybrid, he said, “FAIITA launched a platform called indiaitmall.com, a comprehensive e-commerce solution designed to empower IT stores across the country. This platform allows IT retailers to establish an online presence for just ₹1,000 per year, making it an affordable and accessible option. IndiaITmall.com is equipped with essential features such as delivery logistics and a payment gateway, enabling seamless transactions and order fulfillment. By joining the platform, retailers can transform their business model into a hybrid one, combining the advantages of both offline and online channels to reach a wider customer base and enhance their competitiveness in the digital marketplace.”
DT Awards 2024 showcased inspiring keynote speeche, with Alok Gupta, Managing Director of Unistal Systems Pvt. Ltd., delivering a powerful address that resonated with the IT fraternity. Reflecting on his tenure as President of PCAIT, Gupta shared the association’s foundational vision of "Judo, Jodo, Aage Badho," emphasizing its role in fostering ethical business practices and enabling growth within the IT sector. He highlighted PCAIT’s success in resolving industry disputes worth over ₹20 crores, including numerous cases involving partners and OEMs, through its dedicated Dispute Settlement Committee. Gupta also praised the proactive efforts of PCAIT’s Executive Council Members, who personally engage with stakeholders to resolve issues amicably.
Alok also talked about the support, PCAIT provides to its association members, partners, and end customers, while Executive Council Members dedicate their precious time to visiting clients to reach an amicable solution. “PCAIT remains committed to driving business growth, welcoming new OEMs, and creating a collaborative ecosystem for all stakeholders in the ICT industry.”
Meanwhile, he also stressed upon the deteriorating retail business, and ensured that the association “talk to OEMs to ensure retailers get required margin.” Further, he said, “As a business they never believe in band (close), rather, sit, negotiate, get the margin and get the business,” as band (close) is not good for business health. Mentioning the price disparity between online and offline businesses, he said not to blame customers for relying on online purchases, as it provides them reduced cost.
Alok also shared his data, where he talked to “over 1500 outlet owners across India, only to discover that footfall has gone below average, now by 40%, a challenge for the association.” Also, he encourages the present partners to get the payment issues resolved through MSME for ensured solution.
