Third Wave Coffee has appointed Sanjay Dutta as its new Chief Technology Officer (CTO), strengthening its technology leadership as the rapidly growing coffee chain focuses on digital transformation, scalable infrastructure and technology-enabled expansion.
Dutta brings more than 25 years of experience across enterprise technology, IT operations, digital transformation and technology strategy. His career spans some of the country’s leading QSR, restaurant, retail and FMCG businesses, giving him extensive experience in building technology ecosystems for large and expanding consumer-facing organisations.
Dutta to Lead Third Wave Coffee’s Technology Strategy
In his new role, Dutta will lead Third Wave Coffee’s technology strategy, with a focus on strengthening digital capabilities, modernising technology infrastructure and developing scalable platforms that can support the company’s continued expansion.
His mandate is expected to cover enterprise technology, digital transformation and technology platforms, with a focus on creating a robust technology foundation capable of supporting a growing store network and evolving customer expectations.
Brings Strong QSR and Restaurant Technology Experience
Before joining Third Wave Coffee, Dutta served as Chief Technology Officer at Theobroma Foods. During his tenure, he led enterprise technology transformation, digital ecosystems and cloud architecture initiatives aimed at supporting the company’s expansion.
He has also worked as a Technology Consultant, advising restaurant, supply chain and retail businesses on strategic technology initiatives and digital transformation.
Vast Leadership Experience
Dutta previously served as Vice President – Technology at Gourmet Investments, where he led technology initiatives across prominent restaurant brands including Pizza Express and Chili’s.
Earlier, as Head of IT – KFC & Pizza Hut at Sapphire Foods India, he was responsible for major enterprise technology initiatives, including IT consolidation, ERP transformation, cloud modernisation and payments integration.
This experience has given Dutta deep exposure to the technology requirements of high-volume restaurant operations, including digital ordering, payments, enterprise applications and technology standardisation.
Eight Years at McDonald’s India
A significant part of Dutta’s career was spent at McDonald’s India – North and East, where he served as General Manager – IT for eight years.
During his tenure, he led enterprise technology strategy and initiatives covering digital ordering, payments and IT standardisation. His experience at McDonald’s further strengthened his understanding of deploying technology at scale across a large and geographically distributed restaurant business.
Expanding Technology Leadership at Third Wave Coffee
Earlier in his career, Dutta held IT leadership positions at Mitsui & Co. India and Jaquar & Company, building a diverse technology career across multiple industries.
His appointment comes as Third Wave Coffee continues to focus on strengthening its technology infrastructure and digital capabilities. As the coffee chain expands its footprint, technology is expected to play an increasingly important role in supporting operations, customer engagement, payments and scalable business processes.
With Dutta bringing extensive experience from some of India’s leading restaurant and QSR brands, his appointment positions Third Wave Coffee to further strengthen its technology foundation and pursue its next phase of growth through a more scalable and digitally enabled operating ecosystem.
