In today’s business environment, defined by rapid digital transformation, organizations must leverage technology to drive innovation, resilience, and operational excellence. Prakash Kumar Ranjan, CISO and DPO at Sammaan Capital Ltd, is at the forefront of this evolution. With extensive experience, he has cultivated a leadership approach that combines technical expertise with strategic vision.
In this conversation, Prakash reflects on the early experiences that shaped his career, shares how he balances emerging technologies—such as AI, cloud, and advanced cybersecurity frameworks—with organizational goals, and outlines his long-term vision for fostering innovation, trust, and operational excellence across his teams and enterprise.
Q: What inspired you to pursue a career in technology and how did your early experiences shape your leadership?
A: From a young age, I was drawn to technology because it combined two things I have always enjoyed: problem-solving and building solutions that make life easier. I still remember the satisfaction of experimenting with early coding projects and seeing how a few lines of logic could automate something repetitive. That sense of creating impact through small but meaningful solutions is what inspired me to pursue a career in technology.
Those early lessons still shape how I lead today:
Empathy-first: I have seen first-hand that technology is about people, not just systems. I focus on listening carefully to challenges before proposing solutions.
Encouraging experimentation: Because much of my own growth came from trial and error, I create space for teams to test ideas, fail safely, and learn quickly.
Balancing vision with execution: Early on, I learned the importance of both setting a clear direction and rolling up my sleeves to deliver. As a leader, I strive to bring that same balance to my teams.
Q: How do you balance business objectives with rapid technology evolution, especially in areas like AI, cloud, and cybersecurity?
A: Technology should serve business goals, not the other way around. When evaluating trends like AI, cloud, or cybersecurity, I focus on solving real business problems and creating measurable value. I design flexible technology roadmaps that allow adoption of emerging solutions while embedding cybersecurity and risk management from the start. Close alignment with business leaders and IT teams ensures informed, balanced decisions, considering cost, scalability, and risk. I empower teams to experiment within clear guardrails and measure success through business outcomes, keeping innovation both strategic and sustainable.
Equally important is fostering a culture of continuous learning and adaptability. Technology changes rapidly, and teams that embrace experimentation, knowledge sharing, and collaboration are better equipped to turn innovation into tangible business impact. By encouraging open dialogue across departments and promoting cross-functional initiatives, I ensure that technology adoption is not only efficient but also widely understood and embraced across the organization.
Q: What is your long-term vision for driving digital transformation in your organization, and how do you measure its success?
A: My long-term vision for digital transformation is to build a resilient, data-driven, and customer-centric organization where technology enables agility, efficiency, security, trust and innovation. Success is measured not just by the adoption of new tools, but by tangible outcomes — improved customer experience, faster decision-making, operational efficiency, stronger cybersecurity, and measurable business growth.
Q: How do you mentor and motivate your IT/security teams to stay innovative while ensuring operational excellence?
A: I mentor and motivate my teams by fostering a culture of continuous learning, encouraging experimentation within clear guardrails, and recognizing innovative ideas. At the same time, I emphasize discipline in execution and accountability, so we balance creativity with operational excellence and security at every step. The one initiative I have taken is to rotate the skills by making owner of different cyber security solutions on a periodic basis.
