Aditya Birla Sun Life AMC Limited, the investment manager of Aditya Birla Sun Life Mutual Fund, has appointed Rishi Awasthi as its Chief Information Security Officer (CISO). The appointment places Awasthi at the helm of information security leadership at the asset management company, bringing nearly 15 years of experience across cybersecurity, information security and risk management.
The companyโs board of directors approved the appointment on September 18, 2026, following a recommendation from the Nomination, Remuneration and Compensation Committee.
Experience Across Cybersecurity and Risk Management
Aditya brings professional experience across banking, financial services and insurance (BFSI), technology, telecommunications and consulting. Before taking on the CISO role, he served as Lead Privacy and IS Audit at Aditya Birla Capital Limited, where he joined in May 2023.
In that position, he was responsible for enterprise-wide initiatives covering cybersecurity governance, risk management, regulatory compliance and data privacy. His previous professional experience includes roles at RSM India, Willis Towers Watson, Deloitte India and Tata Consultancy Services, spanning cybersecurity, IT assurance and technology risk.
His background across these organizations brings together experience in information security, technology controls and risk managementโareas relevant to security leadership in the financial services sector.
Academic Qualifications and Professional Certifications
Aditya holds a Bachelor of Technology degree in Computer Science Engineering from SRM University and an MBA in IT Business Management from Symbiosis International University. He has also completed the General Management Programme at the Indian School of Business (ISB).
His professional certifications include Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), Certified Information Security Manager (CISM), Certified Data Privacy Solutions Engineer (CDPSE), Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH) and Associate Certified Chief Information Security Officer (Associate CCISO), among other qualifications.
Succeeds Basil Dange as CISO
Aditya succeeds Basil Dange, whose resignation from the CISO position was accepted with effect from the close of business on September 25, 2026, citing personal reasons.
