Mahindra Manulife Insurance Limited (MMIL) has appointed senior technology and cybersecurity leader Kiran Belsekar as Head – Technology Governance, marking a new chapter in his more than two-decade career across insurance, banking, capital markets, retail and media.
The company is now doubling down on its productivity bet, with today’s releases taking Canva past 100 new feature launches across Docs, Presentations, Sheets, Whiteboards and Video since the start of 2026. More than one billion designs are now created on Canva every month, as people increasingly use the platform for everyday work, from documents and presentations to planning, data and collaboration.
Belsekar brings over 20 years of experience spanning technology strategy, IT governance, cybersecurity, data governance, digital transformation, information security and technology risk management. His appointment comes as Mahindra Manulife Insurance continues to build a digitally led, customer-centric and AI-first life insurance business under its broader vision of “Insurance for All.”
Joining an AI-First Insurer
Belsekar shared the development through a LinkedIn post, describing MMIL as an organisation being built around a simple, customer-first and AI-native approach. He highlighted the combination of the company’s greenfield operating environment, the scale of the Mahindra ecosystem and Manulife’s global insurance expertise as key factors behind his decision to join the organisation.
Focus on Technology Governance
In his new role, Belsekar is expected to contribute to strengthening MMIL’s technology governance framework, technology risk management and digital capabilities while supporting the development of a modern technology ecosystem. His experience across cybersecurity, data protection, cloud, DevOps, privacy and enterprise technology architecture could play a significant role as the insurer scales its digital operations.
More Than Six Years at Bandhan Life
Prior to joining MMIL, Belsekar spent more than 80 months with Bandhan Life, formerly Aegon Life Insurance. He joined the organisation in December 2019 as Vice President and Chief Information Security Officer before taking on broader responsibilities across IT governance, technology, data, cybersecurity and data protection. Most recently, he served as Executive Vice President at Aegon Life, leading technology, data governance and cybersecurity functions.
Reflecting on his tenure, Belsekar credited the organisation’s leadership team, colleagues, partners, vendors and industry peers for supporting his professional growth. He also acknowledged Satishwar Balakrishnan, Managing Director and CEO of Bandhan Life, for his trust and encouragement throughout his journey.
Leadership Across Multiple Industries
Before Bandhan Life, Belsekar served as Senior Vice President and Head of Information Technology and Cybersecurity at ENAM. His earlier leadership assignments include roles at PNB MetLife India Insurance, IndiaFirst Life Insurance, Reliance Life Insurance, Sony Entertainment Television and Future Group. He has also worked with Siemens Information Systems and Micro Clinic.
Building Digital and Secure Enterprises
Across these roles, Belsekar has been involved in building enterprise technology architectures, implementing SAP across multiple business formats and driving initiatives covering digital transformation, infrastructure management, business continuity, information security, data privacy and technology risk.
Belsekar has also been associated with industry communities including CIO Klub, CIOs of India and CyberGurukul. His appointment at MMIL adds an experienced technology and cybersecurity leader to the insurer’s leadership ecosystem as it focuses on combining digital capabilities, AI and customer-centricity to shape its next phase of growth.
